thinking of getting a canon

Why getting another system? Just stay faithful to the dark side!

dont worry.my heart is always with nikon.didnt u see i put the lens cap and ML3 so near my heart?:bsmilie:

i seriously would just like to try it only lah.even if i fall in love with white side, i WONT sell my blackies.

oh i forgot.
dummy me.he always whack me with his white lens.

wah dp, i mean d200 and 5d really sooooooo diff ah?and d200 really that bad ah?:dunno:
If you shoot in a studio, under controlled enviroment, even I cannot tell the difference. either is just as good.

We tried it outsoor at sunset, omg, the noise and the coor balance from the D200 is pathetic.

However, all pictures, the D200 appears to be a bit sharper (85 1.2L vs 85 1.4).

Of course, focusing, 5D wins.

i find expodisc crappy.just look at the field report someone posted...:dunno:
250 for a capppie.pengz

Those who knows me, I am fanatical to a point of being funny about white balance. For complicate lighting situations, I found the expodisc a must. Key is to use it correctly. But at the end of the day, the expodisc is part of the system to determine WB, the camera plays a big part also.

Buy Pringles potatoes chips... The cap not bad... can eat and shoot at the same time... can use as lens cap also... :bsmilie:

The inverted dome of light sphere also can... ;) (Note: both methods are not fool proof... I'm a WB idiot btw... :embrass: )

there is no direct competitor in canon stable to the D200 as yet. The 30D is one rung below it, the 5D is one rung above it.

30D prices have dropped since it was launched. u will need to budget for a decent lens too. 85mm 1.8 would be a good start for portraiture. u will need to also consider getting a flash.

i would just get the 30D. u wont regret the performance. 5fps is nice for sport too.

d200 pathetic ah?oh no...u're beginning to make me hate u....:bsmilie:

focusing as in speed of focusing or accuracy or hunting or :dunno:

I've seen D200 totally screwed up WB using a RED background even with the use of expodisc...

I thought all the pros out there shoot in RAW???

don't hate me lah, please lah, hahaha ...

focusing speed and hunting, Canon's USM tops the chart. Accuracy, both are good, jsut one is slower.

I am not a pro wah ...

btw, all images on that day, shot in raw. Even in raw, you can only recover so much. When you start applying noise reduction (nomatter which program you use) the picture starts to degrade.

This is same with WB. If you have to pull so much this way or that way, frinding starts to appear, image quality starts to degrade.

You comparing Canon USM lens (85mm f/1.2) with Nikon AF-D (85mm f/1.4), of course Canon win lah... use on 400D also faster than D2X with those lenses...

But... I do find Canon AF a little faster than Nikon's... just a little...;)

Don't give the impression that Nikon is snail slow ok... ;p

BC:)

jeanie
if you are looking to shoot mainly portait with a distance of less than 10m. with the buget of 5K, go for the 30D with 85L or 50L+85 1.8 or 70-200 F2.8 non is+50 1.4+85 1.8.

Aiyoh... must understand how expodisc work one mah... point at the Red wall and do WB... WB of course out lah... not solely the fault of D200.

Understand how the equipment work and use them properly... should not have major issues.

Jeanie... if you are dead serious, why not a 5D with a 85 f/1.2L USM?

suppose to point the expodisc at the studio lights for wb right?
but i wonder....why use expodisc in studio?

ain the best way is to know the temp of the lights, and set it manually in the dslr?:dunno:
that way u wont go wrong right?

that would really really exceed my budget.
i'm SERIOUS about getting a canon, but not serious enough to spend more than 5k just to try a system.

Yes... point at studio light.

You can do it both ways lah... but some studio strobe can have colour shift.

Borrow, or beg, to get a Canon 5D and try it out. No need to buy. Then decide.

the EF 85 1.2L is a very slow focusing lens, possible the slowest in the EF family.

The focusing speed comparison was made with a few other lens, non-scientific, but Canon beats Nikon, period.

How about spend $4999 for try Canon system ;p . Be careful, once addicted, you may have to maintenance 2 systems  .

Arto.
