There's some user reviews out there, but I guess the sample size currently is too small to make a judgement call on this FF ultra wide offering from Pentax.
Few things I usually consider for ultra wides these days is when matched with the K1 is able to resolve edge to edge well. I look at its "starburst" effect. Of course, its physical attributes and the ability to take on filters.
For the starburst, unlike the Pentax APS-C lenses, the starburst while pronounced doesn't have the typical oomph we are so used to. The likes of DA15, DA12-24 if you see the starburst are very distinct and extremely pointed. From the examples I see in the 15-30, not so, but still acceptable.
Resolution, I can't tell, I don't have the lens. But I know that quite a number of reviews suggest that it's up there with good ultra wides. But I am always wary of sample variations.
Physical attributes - I saw the images pair with K1, and to be honest, most "lao jiao" pentax users in SG are likely to be put off. Are we carrying 70-200 or what... LOL. But consider this context, if you put a 14/15mm f2.8 + 21mm f2.8 + 24/25mm f2.8 + 28mm f2.8 and of course, Pentax being the queer one out there who had a 30mm f2.8. You'll probably be carry similar or heavier weight. So it really depends on your preference.
I enjoy longer exposure photography (doesn't have to be a 5min 6min exposure), but the ability to mount filters to prolong the exposure have always been 1 of the pre-requisite for me. As this lens is likely to be physically similar to Tamron 15-30, there's solutions out there.
There's another way to go, and that's to get something slightly smaller like a 20mm or a 24mm prime, and you do Panos with it. There's many small multi-row pano heads out there that'll help you create a wider POV. But not many will enjoy the technicalities of putting this together.
The Samyang 14 seems to be quite good - Check Pinholecam's images with it. And I would even consider the Samyang 24mm TS lens.
Just my short 2c worth.
Now what would I buy? If I buy all those legacy lens, or even the samyang, I will always be thinking what if I stick to Pentax. If it's a Pentax lens, I think for me, I'll see less BnS, BnS.![]()
clap clap clap....
