i might get screwed for saying this, but i find the af speed on the d300s is faster than the d700, this is personally my own opinion having both camera at a certain point of time...

to answer ya question, i think its the same, as the only major upgrade of the D300s is the added video capability, diff button layout,

That probably made my night worthwhile to sleep. Lol.

Thanks for the answer!!!

Did you feel that D300s AF speed was faster than D700 ?

This is interesting

Looks like Nikon really need to cut the price for D300s, to make it still competitive against his own little brother the D7000. (note: not against the new EOS 60D ;p)

The new D7000 starts to eat the D300s market slowly and slowly and slowly ...

I am one of those who eaten by D7000... ;)

Not sure how much is the difference in image quality, but holding both camera in hands, the D300s is definitely more appealing to me.

personal opinions based on the fact am a D300 owner and mean no harm to knock down on anyone :) :
1 no point in upgrading bodies every now and then just to catch up with Nikon's ever-changing and World's advancements in technologies. Rather and honest speaking... upgrading of lens or acquire new lens would probably push one's photography to new heights since lens are the eyes of a camera and its photographer which is an important and core factor;
2 D7000 or D300s, it all depends on individual photographer's needs and desire on the body itself... why get a D300s when you dont need or maybe dont know how to fully utilise its functions and capabilities... likewise... whats the urgency to get a D7000? just because its new and up-to-date and much hype surrounding the launch?... honestly speaking, its capabilities and abilities were not fully tested as yet unlike D300s which is an improve version of the good old D300, tested and proven by many amatuers and professionals here and around the world
3 D300s is in a different league compared to D7000 in terms of capabilities, functions, and built... its like comparing D3s vs D300s...

1 cent worth of comment... hope i didnt offend anyone for being frank

I am having the same issue on deciding on either D7000 or 300s.
But looking at the recent posting on the D7000 issue?

Is it still ok to go for D7000?

I am sure you know the answer within yourself.

It is really interesting to read that this kind of question still surface despite the thread having clocked hundreds of postings. I think you hv to go back to the basic of what each body is designed/meant for to cater for the type of usage and need.

The D300s is well know for its speed hence the AF and FPS is most critical and so far proven & tested.
As for the D7k, it is based on new technology- Expeed2, better CMOS sensor, and most glaring is the 16mp resolution.

So if you want speed go for the D300s. If you are a megapixel freak and like the new technology go for the D7k.

The recent issues with D7k is not uncommon when it comes to new technology. There will always a small percentages of quality issue. Can't help if you are so suay but I guess it may have something to do with M. i. T. ( Made in T-land)

D200 D300 D300s all made in T-land too... and they turned out great.

Hyundai car factory in Beijing produces cars with a much lower defect rate than Hyundai Korea.

IMHO which country a product is made has totally no correlation with defect/failure rate.

Whether a factory is managed well, I think that is key.
