just doing some ranting here... why can't i download FREE iPhone Apps (via iTunes) which is not available for download in SG??? what is wrong with Apple? even though if the apps are not FREE... my registered credit card can still be used for payment mah. why am i only limited to apps from local content??? :angry:
it's all about licensing. you are referring to the US itunes store? for a US itunes account you need to have a US credit card. alternatively if you can buy and redeem a US gift certificate to create an account. after that you can download all the free stuff you want including music and videos.

The developer and Apple both have to make them available to other countries. There are many Japanese applications I'd like to buy, but many are not available outside Japan and a few are. Those few were made available specifically by the developer.

"Please join Apple on January 27 for a Special Event," said a typically cryptic email invitation to journalists from the company behind the Macintosh computer, the iPod and the iPhone.
"Come see our latest creation," said the invitation, which featured colorful blobs of paint surrounding the Apple logo.
The Cupertino, California-based company did not supply any further details about the invitation-only event to be held at 10:00 am Pacific time (1800 GMT) at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco.
Apple used the same venue in September for an iPod event featuring the first public appearance by Steve Jobs after nearly six months of medical leave during which the Apple chief executive underwent a liver transplant.
Silicon Valley has been buzzing for months with rumors that Apple plans to release a touchscreen tablet computer that resembles an oversized iPod Touch and analyst Douglas McIntyre said the company now needs to deliver.
"Watch (Apple) shares drop 10 percent if it is not the anticipated tablet computer and 15 percent if Steve Jobs is not there with the tablet in his hand," McIntyre wrote on 247WallSt.com.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the color multimedia device will allow users to browse the Web, listen to music, watch movies or television shows and also serve as an electronic book and newspaper reader.
The Journal said the Apple tablet will have a 10- to 11-inch (25.4- to 27.9-centimeter) screen and may begin to ship in March.
Apple routinely refuses to comment on products ahead of their release and - true to form - the company has ignored the rumors sweeping technology blogs, letting anticipation and speculation build.

Valleywag declared Apple the first winner of its contest after receiving a letter from the company's lawyers.
"We believe you and your company have crossed the line by offering a bounty for the theft of Apple's trade secrets," an Apple lawyer said in a copy of the letter posted online by Valleywag.

seems like there will be 3G data capability but no voice, though i really wish there will be. then i will happily forego the iphone. ;p
If you're talking about Snow Leopard or Leopard, I agree. They really have lost their way in delivering a quality experience for everyone. Apparently, a lot of people still fit into what they test but, from what I see, Snow Leopard has more problems than Leopard and it was full of bugs. They're still better than Windows Vista but that's not saying much.
I think their new slate(s--10 and 7 inch) will be interesting, especially if it has so much support for magazines and newspapers as the rumours suggest.
Yes boss, I was referring to Snow Leopard. I can't believe Apple Singapore mentioned to me that my Mac Pro 2009 using up 50W of extra power just to play a simple audio file as being 'normal'. The CPU was clearly overheating (from 36 deg C jumps to 65 deg C) from the poor audio drivers. The system even suffer from kernel panic when doing audio work. Everything is within specs they say. I say bullsh!t. Even my FireWire port is having the same CPU overheating problem. Sigh...
I wish Apple would stop trying to appeal to the masses and come out with products that actually 'works'.
Yes, I am the owner of a crappy and rushed product called the Mac Pro. Selling it away is not an option.
After switching to a Mac for a few weeks, I must say there are pros and cons to a Mac. Like all things, after a while, the excitement of owning something dies down.
I don't know if it's my ignorance, but there are things which are not as instinctive as Apple is supposed to be. For eg, in Windows, I love the right click button where I can cut a document and past it in another folder effortlessly. For Apple, after right click, I can only find Copy and Paste. Most of the time, the Cut function does not appear!
For Windows, I can collectively highlight several files, then right click to find out how large they are in total size. For Apple, it tells me how many GB of space I have left. DUHHH! I can know that through other means! What's important is the total size of those files. And when I used GET INFO, Big mistake! The Mac unbelivably opens the information for ALL the files I've highlighted and filled my screen!
I'm not sure about this, but there's no immediate deletion of files. Everything's got to Move to Trash which very soon gets clogged up. And in the trash, I can't even selectively choose which files I would not like to delete yet. It allows me to highlight the files there and when I hit Empty, Big Mistake! It empties ALL the files I have in the trash! Why let me highlight them then?
iTunes... Oh man... I thot I respected this thingy a lot since it's used for Apple's iPod and iPhone, nano etc. But it's a darn big pain to use it. Whenever I double clicked a song in an external hard disk, it pushed it to iTunes and labeled the song as an album! Very soon, after listening to several songs, I was shocked to see I have 60+ "albums" which are really just individual songs! And there's no clear cut way to re-classify them by neatly putting the songs into a folder. I can't even figure out nicely where those songs are kept! In Windows media player, albums are no different from the normal folders, so songs can be neatly kept there.
DVD player... darn.. As many have pointed out here, the region-sensitive thingy is a pain. In windows, I can easily use many softwares to bypass the region code restriction. So the iDVD software is as good as non-existent to me since I won't use it at all.
Talking about DVDs, I'm not sure if you guys experience this. If you are not careful, you can easily scratch your DVDs and CDs. The edges of the slot-in are sharp. A slight angle when inserting the disc will scratch them.
And what's up with the red "Close" button at the top left hand corner? I thought by clicking it, I have closed a program or document for good. But apparently No! The program is still lurking somewhere in the background. You got to go to topmost menu bar beside the Apple symbol to select Close. Oh man... Then what's the red Close button for if it doesn't close completely?!
Am I bitching about the Mac here? Well, not really... Just to let those who might be considering the Mac the other side of the coin. I've already invested in it and there's no turning back for an expensive equipment. It's still attractive outwardly and the icons and colors are nice compared to Windows. I also appreciate the more stable platform compared to Windows.
However for those who want to consider switching to a Mac, make sure you know what you're getting into. If you just want to get the job done and not care about the bells and whistles, I'd say think carefully. You can save a lot more $ and get more upgrades (hardware and software) and computing power with a PC. If you want elegance, fanciful fonts and icons that bounce around or stuffs that function as eye candy, while enjoying stability of the system, then maybe the extra $$$ of $1k may be worthy to splurge on a Mac.

Hi Priscilia, most of your issues are likely to be personal behaviour to me. I don't find anything wrong with Apple's Finder, iTunes or most of its app in generals. In fact, I can find myself to be more productive in the Mac environment when sorting files, looking for things and quickly previewing them. Having Expose, Spaces really helps to de-clutter my screen in mere seconds. All these things takes time for the user to realise its usefulness. Like a brand new shoe, it takes a while to get used to it. Hope no offence taken. Cheers!

Well, I've been having multiple problems on Snow Leopard, also, but I have a little faith that Apple will fix them. What I've learned in the past is that the operating system is not stable until 10.x.4, so we have 2 fix releases until 10.6.4 and I'm not sure how long I can wait but for the average user, I'm sure they're happy.

Some of the problems you're having is that Microsoft did something different with Windows after Apple decided how Macs would operate.
Since there is a main window in any Windows application, when you close it, the application must close but there is no main window in a Macintosh application and it is expected to remain open--except by former Windows users.
There is definitely no cut for files, which is thought to be too dangerous. It should be an option, but apparently no user is careful enough for Apple. You can find a third party application to do it or learn to use the command line.
If you also used Linux or FreeBSD, you would be frustrated about other things. It always seems to happen when a person stays with one operating system for a rather long time but I'm sometimes frustrated but I know ways around the issues that bother me the most.

the role of itunes is to help you manage your music collection so that you don't have to keep track of which folders the songs are in. itunes may appear to mess up your neatly organized music folders by filing the songs according to artist and album, but that is only at the disk level. within itunes you are able to view and filter according to any combination you want - by artist, album, genre, year, etc, and i think that is what makes itunes useful.
if you still prefer to do things manually, you can uncheck "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding". that way you take care of the songs and folders at disk level, and still use itunes to view and filter. note that if you delete the songs from disk, itunes will not know about it.
