i suggest you read the original news report more carefully. the bus driver DID explain why he had to retain the card.

"The alarm was activated because the student's concession card had either been reported lost or stolen. So Mr Wong said he had to follow the standard procedure of retaining the card.

When he told her she had to surrender the card, she initially refused. She handed over only after he insisted and explained that the card had a problem and had to be retained. Said Mr Wong in Mandarin: 'All this while, the male student kept arguing that the ez-link card belonged to the girl. I kept repeating my explanation, but he refused to listen.' "
So how?

You want to believe the student or the bus driver?

Either could be lying leh. =(

See what you say after that!

I think that's probably quite an impossible task. :sticktong

Anyway, perhaps you can explain why you have doubts as to who's telling the truth?

The problematic ezlink card belongs to the gal. The gal reported lost of of ur personal ezlink card but found it later from dunno where. However, we can guess the gal never report back her findings and thus that ezlink card is still considered "lost" in ezlink inc and SBS. This system works similar as lost credit card.

Bus drivers do have the right to retain the ezlink card. This incident has occured many times and pple complainting to the press many many more times and the respective coys already explain the reasons. If it isnt the card holder's fault, why so scared abt surrendering? U can f SBS or SMRT if they make a big mistake by doing that, and not by showing off how good ur arm muscles are

baCK when i waS in school, i clearly recall students tremble at the mere mention of 'teacher goin to call up parents and complain'.

and stage caning was the 'in' thing!

and parents day is always pure nightmare. :sweatsm:

time haf changed!

Gif it to the Hwa Chong boy!!!
Brings back the old memories. :sweatsm:

My Secondary School principal once issued public caning order on 2 of my classmates for extreme cruelty to animals. Its just a small iguana and they killed it by smashing it, stomping on its head until the entire body was flattened.

3 strokes of public caning and their parents was notified.

I still remember they called in our discipline master. They were made to bend over a chair, legs apart, the DM felt their butts to make sure that there are no paper, extra underwear to cushion the blow, stood back and waited for the order from the Principal. 1 lash and the whiplash sound, fuah.... My DM's quite muscular so those 2 guys had it good.

I wonder if schools these days still administer public caning though. Any Sec/JC students witnessed public caning?

that is still practise, but are for big offence like stealing and cheating during exams
I hope u are kidding.

Stealing, cheating, rioting in the past are already grounds for expulsion.

Definitely looks like schools are getting lax.

Between the chick and Daddy trying to shield dat punk and the whole damned bus of witnesses who saw who threw the first punch, I'd choose to believe the bus driver.

Schools need to change the disciplinary system back to the past when it was harsher.

i agree:)

ya man... should allow public caning...

for eg, adults bring canes to performance, then when they see someone blocking their view, 1 smack go over whip their head or backside, whichever visible and blocking their view...:bsmilie:

its never going to work in this society

money does.

sounds like my old sec sch where public caning is so common!

cruelty to animals(cats) resulted in students being sacked!

and some bodohs burnt the principal's car and it made headline news all over Singapore! wooohoooooo! the late 80s to early 90s roxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!!!

and no parents complain abt their sons being smacked in the buttocks!

no write up to the press to tell their sad sob stories!

no protest... no such nonsense!

maybe i do really live in the past like wat jeff49er said abt Liverpool fans living in the past!
those were the good old days!

The key point is not whether they have the power to do so.

The key point is whether they have the right to do so WITHOUT EXPLANATION.

Tsk. No one ever gets my point.

they dun need, they have all the rights to. They can refused boarding to any passenager also if they deem so.

I think the bus driver should just lodge a police report. Using physical violence is criminal offence.

Crying after punching looks ike a fake act afterall... That boy is just trying to act macho in front of gf thinking he can get away from it....

Hope the media can get a proper coverage on this and not sensationalize any part of the story... I believe the public will like to know the whole story...

i think u're missing the point.
the bus driver might be lying, yes yes.

but...
the passengers spoke up for the bus driver and they sided the bus-driver's side of the story.

wat does this tell u? everyone is lying except the student? bravo.

being controversial doesn't necessarily mean u'll be different or special. it might make u stand out but for all the wrong reasons.
