The bigshot

before you guys villify Caleb or say that he has anything to do with it,

i would like to point out that he might be being used to stir up the viewership.

anyways, boo to the producers :bsmilie:

Careful with yr words.

Btw, not sure if anyone noticed a certain Diane Lundgren commenting non-stop on how much she loves Caleb's shots.

If you click on her profile, it says "Studied Portraiture at Brooks Institute" (Caleb has mentioned on many occasions that he studied there) and her friends list includes Caleb.

Just pointing out something I just noticed. :)
I noticed that too! She's either former classmate or fervent Brooks Institute supporter? Caleb's speciality is supposedly Documentary/Reportage style, and while his choice of subject might be pretty good, the judges did rightly (IMO) point out on the busy-ness of the background, the tilt and why didn't he just choose a better angle to frame the subject better

The problem with Caleb's shot is the skin tone... There is a visible tinge of magenta/red. Subtle perhaps but there.

Also there is just too much useless space on the right.

Granted my screen IS uncalibrated but the skintone definitinely has a magenta/reddish colour cast and as zemotion aka Zhang Jingna mentioned as well, it would have worked better if the crop was slightly tighter and it was shown on screen as well. The other thing I did notice was on his own post of the photo, he was mentioning something about wanting to mention to the judges about uncalibrated monitors re: the colour tone. Nothing personal against him, but excuses, excuses...

Yeap. I just watched the replay, his shot was totally out of theme and I was stoned for awhile after knowing he not been eliminated.

S3 Episode 4: I AM DANGEROUSLY BEAUTIFUL (Landscape Photography) | Facebook

Anyway in case if u are still searching for the links to watch -> Videos from The Big Shot 3 on MSN Video :)

Yeah its ludicrous that someone who shot totally out of theme stays while one who did stay on theme, albeit not a strong photo, got booted off first. Oh FYI Caleb posted that this was his alt shot for this past episode's challenge

He claims why he didn't go with it as it was too much of a hard sell. It would've been a better choice then say, the cups setting IMHO.

P.S. what? One of the judges commented about the inappropriateness of shooting landscape theme shots in portrait orientation? Now I gotta check out who said this gem.

I was hoping that he chose the skeleton to depict the "dangerous" portion. Then his pic would hv been very impactful.

This is what i meant too.

Wow... I'd submit my trial macro shots as Dangerously beautiful (Landscape photography)... or maybe macro on my Ironman toy...
Maybe my hamsters? they can bite, so dangerous, yet beautiful.

I did not know so many things can be categorized as landscape photography.

I think the comment was given based on the landscape shot being very tight (it was a a guy standing on some rubble). Could have worked better with a landscape orientation.

from my understanding of what the judge had said and what some of them had agreed upon is that portrait orientation for landscape theme is not landscape fotography.

i might be wrong thus, can someone verify if this was what transpired?

I think so, goin by their logic.

portrait photography cannot have landscape orientation.
landscape photography cannot have portrait orientation..

I only have one comment here: Those judges who were the professional photographer doesn't seem professional to me at all. I scared I'll be sort of having anti-Tommy feeling if I keep on watching.. LOL.

Saw the show and was shock that Caleb was still around while the other photographer was booted off. This is a TV show and the judges have really let the views down, I'm sure many will start questioning if the judges are really good enough to be in the show.

What if the theme is to shoot diagonal patterns?

Must have diagonal orientation? :bsmilie:

The judges any how gives point one. If that tea cups can pass, really kelong. If no EXPLANATION from the photographer, will you know where the photo are taken at? Most of us will thought, some one house la.

They want who to win, they can comes out with 101 stupid reasons. Just like most of us facing in daily life, haha!

Dunno leh but I like his casual portraits on his flickr. Hahah.

If I was one of the judges, I would say that Fauzi's shot could have been framed better, simply by cropping away the man and the foreground into a landscape orientation. Mount Merapi, faintly seen in the background, is dangerous in the destruction in can wreak (destroyed house and lava in the foreground), yet beautiful in its majestic grandeur and lush verdant setting (middle ground and background).

Caleb's shot, on the other hand, missed the theme totally and needed a total reshoot.

haha ,,,,, you missed the major flaw, it was supposed to be a landscape shot, and he did it in a portrait :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Landscape shoot must shoot in landscape format??? Is that smart alec "Nikon Professional Photographer" working for Nikon? Seriously this is reflecting damn bad on Nikon as the main sponsor.

Tea cups can pass the theme??? WTF are the "judges" thinking?? They are like the so many "act-pro" critics in Portrait section, comment for the sake of commenting ONLY i.e. a total rubbish!
