Tamron's new 24-70mm f2.8 VC

Yo..

Here you go..

Dunno if this is sufficient. (I don't even know if you consider the image is sharp) I never stopped to think if my lens had any back/front focussing issues. Do let me know if you think it is. Appreciate it.

Cheers.

I was focussing on the gold rim of the coin.

Settings :
ISO 400 f2.8 1/13
Handheld, VC on

Yikes i missed that! :embrass:

Wah.. Pain... My photo is so soft? Sigh....

Hi bro, thanks for sharing but your pictures are just as soft as mine. Hope you don't mind me showing you. :) I'm sure someone here have a very sharp copy with zero sharpening straight ooc.

Ah.. Thanks for enlightening me.. Appreciate it. I wonder if anything can be done about it.
Do let me know if the service centre provides a remedy.

THanks!

Oh... Btw, I wasn't using a tripod and I had a filter on. Kenko Zeta Protection Filter.

At 1/13, at max size, I think pic 1 looks ok. 2nd pic the focus seems to have shifted, the coin looks sharper.

However bro, looking at your actual non test pics, I will not be concerned about doing this test at all. Real life shots you did out there are sharp. So I really will not be worried if I were you :)

Aww.. You da man Wolfton... Thanks for the affirmation.
Now I can go sleep peacefully...Haha...
Can't wait for the next break at work to go out street shooting again....
Fingers itchy...

Cheers.

should note that he is using a APS-C 650D which is more demanding on the lens (all MP within 1.6 crop)vs your frame which is spreading 18MP across the entire frame

Yikes i missed that! :embrass:

just share my view on photography, but i not pro ok.

to me, those what u say not sharp looks good to me.

back in film days, i dont hear things like front/back focusing issues. manufacturing tech. has improves by leaps n bounce, so all camera gears r more than likely to be better than say before y2k.

just go out a take photos, stop overly worrying about ur gears. sharpness doesnt gets u picture that captures viewers attention, concept n compositions does.

I agree with your view on this bro, but spending our hard earned money on a lemon product is definitely not something that anyone can live with. Otherwise we would all buy our gears without worrying about qc or perform any testing.:bsmilie: Anyway after seeing this video, I realize that I shouldn't expect too much from this lens. :) Here's a screenshot of it.

if i have the cash, i will get this lens for :

1) VC which is important because likely to have more camera shake as I age.

2) Tamron's f2.8 for AF in low light compare to Canon 24-70 f4 IS is a big plus. But if compare to Canon 24-70 f2.8, AF capability may be similar but without IS, most likely to have camera shake.

3) Being f2.8 means can use lower ISO / faster shutter speed compare to the Canon 24-70 f4 IS.

I dont have any of these $$$ lens, a/m are based on info I have gathered from the net.

Soft?
You got to be kidding right?

A better and fair test would be taking sample pictures with both canon 24-70mm to and
tamron 24-70mm using same camera and same settings on same object. I am sure you will be delighted by output from tamron if you compare side by side.

So sorry. :embrass: I didn't expect the sharpness to be soft as shown by Norman because i always thought when sharpness is mentioned with regard to this lens, it's like the one shown below on the right. Have to accept it that this is the standard of sharpness that the lens can provide.

Mabmy not your pic, I was referring to Norman's pic which IMO is fine.

One other thing to consider, I've found that the sharpness of the image depends on the software you use.
DPP is better at extracting detail than Adobe's PS.

Anyway, how do you guys test if VC is working? My shots always have motion blur with VC on, even when shooting at 1/10. On live view, when i shake the camera, it still doesn't look stabilize. It's also seems to be draining my battery. Last night before i switch off my cam, it was at 98%, this morning when i switched it on, it was at 95%.

practice practice practice..if not up your ISO..if not ..use a tripod if u can.
draining of battery is fine..come on. Its only 3%... if this worries you. then remove the battery before you slp.

Haha... Quite true. All things said and done, I think it is a wonderful lens that is gonna be my go-to lens for everything. It hasn't come off my camera since I bought it in DEC. For Street shooting, for portraits, for family fun days for birthday parties and even my work events.

Btw, I just remembered that the lens is sharpest at f5.6, 7.1.

Wasn't trying to pixel peep bro, just wished i had lowered my expectation. Also it doesn't feel good to realize spending our hard earned money on something that could either be a lemon, or just didn't live up to its hype. Those who had a good copy of this lens had it easy on them and nothing to worry about because the money spend is well worth it. :)

I have shaky hands bro, i even hold my breath for a good 3 to 5 secs before pressing the shutter and usually a good VC or IS would show the image to have no motion blur. I've used an in body IS system before and the IS is really good. At 1/5, no motion bur was visible at all. With this lens VC, i'm getting motion blur even at 1/10. :(

Yes bro, from all the reviews and sharing in this thread, I can see that it is a wonderful lens.
