Hi Bro,
thanks for your comments, i am using Canon 6D, paired with Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 ... u can check via my Flickr acct as well...
they have the camera quote on the right hand side of the pic with the location where the pics are taken...quite a cool feature...

Sian. I also Kenna. My 650d's original canon battery was drained twice in two days of getting the Tamron 24 70 lens. I wanted to write it of as me being shutter happy on the first day. But I didn't take a single photo the whole of Sunday and the new fully charged battery was empty at 2am.

Bought from SLR REVOLUTION.
I even asked the sales person before purchasing if she was aware of conflict betwn the lens and the 650. She said she wasn't aware. She even told me it was new stock. So I thought it must have been a batch that had the problem fixed. guess I was wrong.

Waiting For the sun to come up so that Tamron will pick up my call......

Serial number 015----

It's a known problem.. Need to bring it to Tamron and let them update the lens firmware...

Actually, the surprising thing is that the problem surfaces only when I was using my canon original battery. Cos, I put in my 3rdd party battery last night and at 5pm today, the battery is still full!

So right now I'm really unsure if the lens needs the firmware upgrade. I don't want to send it in unnecessarily.

I'm gonna observe it for a couple of days and see if the battery drain occurs again. If it does, I'll take it down to the Tamron svc ctr.

Yeah. Confirm got problem. I was shooting for only 30 mins and now battery is half full. Shall send it tomorrow. I guess I was vein too hopeful.

interesting observation that only the original battery is drained and 3rd party not, perhaps you can share this finding with CSC when u bring it in.

Odds are CSC will say that the 3rd party battery might not be reflecting the true capacity at best or at worst just say they don't support 3rd party so they dunno why this is happening. I would be more concerned about the drainage of the original battery though.

Yeah. I think that's what they would probably say. Cos with the 3rd party battery, the battery life display showed full for quite a long time. But from my observation, it was still being drained. And it went from full on the display to empty very suddenly.

In conclusion, the battery is still being drained. Regardless of the brand or model of the battery. The only difference is that the canon battery allows the user to have a clearer picture of battery life remaining.

Btw, I met another user of the 24-70 who came to the Tamron service centre to drop off his Lens. He is using his Lens with a D7000. His issue is that the auto focus is very bad. Bought in December 2012. The technician's preliminary diagnosis is that firmware needs to be upgraded as well.

Looks the the Tammy is a nice pice of glass but needs to be updated before enjoying.

I bought it from SLR Revo too and also come with the same 015 serial number. Drained my 6D battery but problem solved after I send the lens to the SC for firmware update. So maybe potential buyer should take note.

Mine is 018---.. No issues so far...

Hi All,

I am using Canon 6D with Tamron 24-7mm F2.8 VC , serial number 0217xx).
No problem with the Original Canon battery - no lost of battery life (tested in my recent bali trip, can last me 1 whole day)
but if i put the Third party CHIONG OEM batter, the drainage is super bad ... (o/n - no use, over 50% gone!!!)

i think for my case, it is THIRD PARTY battery - maybe kena LEMON, dun thinkn i will travel all the way up to Changi North (Tarmron service centre), super far for me...i stay in West Side...

i will test with my two other lens (Sigma 85mm & Tamron 70-300mm VC) and see how my Canon 6D reacts ...
