Tamron's new 24-70mm f2.8 VC

Hi Guys, has anyone done a real comparison between Tamron 24-70 VC with Canon 24-70 Mk2?

I'm using Canon 5D3 and is wondering if I should spend $2.9K on the canon 24-70 Mk2 or buy Tamron 24-70 VC + Sigma 35 f1.4
Both works out to be about the same cash out.

I am also looking at getting the Tamron 24-70 and Sigma 35 f1.4 than just the 24-70 Mk2! I guess unless if u got the $$ and know what the mk2 can provide which the alternatives can't, otherwise just get the tammy and sigma. Just my thoughts...

There are already a couple of reviews on the web doing this exact comparison and these have been mentioned before in this or the Canon thread.

I do not see the point of getting the T24-70 + S35 because the S35 overlaps. If you want to consider the S35, it would also be relevant for the C24-70II. The idea of getting the T24-70VC is so that you can shoot in low light/slower shutter speeds and get away without camera shake, thus negating the need for the 35F1.4 (2stop advantage vs 3-4stop VC).

In fact I just sold off my 35L, 28f1.8, 50f1.8II because the T24-70VC more than covers this range, and swapped them for another lens.

Good point on swapping out the primes........

Unless someone wants to shoot with f1.8 or f2 quite often.

One comment on the Tammy when mounted on a tripod, remember to SWITCH OFF the VC, otherwise your shots will be blurred.
I tried to shoot in a cathedral mounted on the tripod and couldn't get sharp shots till I did that.

Actually that is true for most stabilized lenses.

It always advisable to off the VC on any lens when mounted on tripod.

Taken on my recent trip to Beijing...
Going up on a cable car and still managed to capture this:

Thot of getting this for my FF cam ... anyone know whether we can check the batches to avoid the copy with lens being dislodged ... the VC is really good for berrrrrrrrry cold country shoots ... :)

Shooting with VC is great...capturing the fun in freezing temps of -17degC:

Like to be pushed around?

Any shots to demonstrate the lens performance for distortion on building shots?

My copy was manufactured around Dec 2012 and it has no issues.

Not mine..
