$650 is expensive for a grey set. $650 should get you a local set with extended warranty. Or has the price of this lens gone up?

duno man.. edison at sls has a few local warranty sets left..but selling $680 wif 1 year warranty...

not sure about this Edison place, when i got my lens, shop warranty for the grayset means they will send back to Japan for repair. Anyway, my 1 year almost up and the lens is still good as gold. (keeping fingers crossed).

Hi,
I got my Canon Mount version (made in japan) from TK. My fault that I did not check thoroughly, it was found to have front focus later. My suspicious of the focus issue after a session of wedding shots, the pictures were soft seen from the computer. Thus sent to Tithes Marketing (distributor) for service, my copy has the three year local warranty thingy. Just got it back, after a month, they sent it to Japan for adjustment. So far the picture are good.

BTW Im using Canon 40D, I actually sent the body to CSC for calibration too, I thought it was the Body problem, anyway they say they did a minor adjustment (electrical).

IMO, the best is to have the calibration of the lens with the body, which was done for my Sigmas.

sorry guys, need to ask sthing...the latest version comes with a built in motor,so wat does it help in? and without a built in motor, wats the difference? im using a d70,so if i will to buy this version without the built in motor, wat is going to happen? sorry im noob on lens....do pardon mi...

in built motor so that d40 or d40x can use since they don't have motors in their bodies.

ok...thanks...now i know wats the difference.

i think u can also have manual override.... i think....

No I doubt you can. It's probably just a built-in micromotor, not a full-fledged SWM equivalent with distance window and manual override. If they decide to implement these features, it'll be costing quite a lot more.

Whatever it is, I think all camera makers should allow this Tammy lens to be a bundle option when selling their camera bodies.

It is a better lens than any of them kit lens offered by the camera brands.

if they do that, then how will they sell their cheaper and lousier kit lens? :bsmilie:

How does that make sense at all? It's like asking Canon to sell its camera with a Nikkor for a kit lens, that's adapted to a Canon mount.

No one in their right mind would bundle with a competitor's product.

It's like asking Apple to bundle their iPods with Creative earphones.

I agree.. If they bundled this with the canon cameras, then there would be less of an incentive to get the Canon EF-S 17 - 55 mm...

erm... note the words I used, "bundle option".

too complicated on corporate level bah...

but at sales level i think it is possible but still difficult to implement.

anyway...anyone got an inkling when the inbuilt motor version is hitting our shores?

So what? What's the difference between camera makers offering it as a bundle option, and offering it as a kit lens? Same thing, different name...

Look back to the comparison I made. If Canon did that, who would buy original Canon lenses? The lenses put out of a job are not just limited to the three kit lenses, but possibly also the EF-S 17-55 IS USM, not to mention a host of other prime lenses that cover that range and have a maximum aperture of f/2.8. The sales logic is out of whack. Bundle option or part of the kit, Canon would still lose money, which is why they are not dumb enough to do so.

True. you make sense. Well done.

jus check out alan photo and op for the nikon mount.. out of stock

does anyone knows if there's any pre order for the lens with built in motor? Japan is launching on this month 13.

If it has a built in motor.. can it be used on my nikon d80? sorry for the noob question.

with the built-in motor, its means that it can be on D40, D40X and D60. No difference on your D80.

If there is a significant price difference, might as well get the one without the built-in motor since your D80 dun need the on-lens motor.

yup, i suggest just getting the old tamron. its worth a look as i think it only costs about $600 if you can find it at the shops. i am of course assuming the NEW tamron with the built-in motor to cost significantly higher.

anyways, the d80 is a great cam and you can use almost every lens out there except for the manual lens (AI-S) as it cant meter on the d80

thanks for the replies.. but do anyone know if any shops have stock of the old set with local warranty?
