I never owned a Tamron lens before, so dun really know the quality. So if international warranty and bought from Taiwan, can i service it locally if anything wrong? Any comments & advices from bros here?

if you buy from overseas and has an international warranty, the distributor will honor it here... and it would have a 1 year warranty (must have overseas receipt). however, if you buy a local set, it will have 3 years warranty from the local distributor (must send back the warranty withing 7 days of purchase).

Yes for my Sigma 50-150. It's a 1 year international warranty. But dun really know much about Tamron. I presume that the price should be much lower in Taipei than local. Same as my Sigma lens which i got it cheaper at almost $200's difference.:)

seems like an updated version will be out to be used with d40x

I called Tithes Marketing, the distributor for Tamron. I am told they have stopped manufarturing the existing 17-50mm model. The new model(I guess with focus motor) will be out in March/April.

At this range, you can go without IS... but in longer telephotos, e.g. 200mm, IS would become very useful...

Anyways... you can have a look at some shots I took in HK & Macau recently... I only carried this one lens with me throughout the whole trip...

The shots you see are with a Nikon D200. I am very pleased with the performance of the Tamron... does well in low light... great colors

wow, hmm are they going to add VC to it as well??!!;)
i hope they do it for Nikon and canon users.. ;p

I am not sure if VC is going to be any good for 17-50mm focal lenght. But for sure, if any, the price of the lens will not be cheap. But as far as we can see from their press announcement, no VC.

Optical performance should be similar despite different bodies used. Of course, there will be slight differences, but you don't have to read through the whole thread to realise that this lens has impressed both Nikon and Canon users alike.

As i'm now in Taipei, i decided to test out the Tamron 17-50 here before deciding to purchase. The copy i tried was quite sharp and AF was fast. Of course i'm no expert to test out thoroughly like some experts here. However, the sharpness and picture quality seems better than my Canon 17-40L. After some testing and bargaining, i purchase a copy equivalent to S$580. Will be testing the lens tomorrow at KaoShiung.:)

Finally got my hands on the tamron after reading extensively over the past few weeks from the forum and from the reviews and some advice from fellow cs users here. The lens is certainly GREAT! Very fast AF and good bokeh.

I was using my 50mm most of the time but because its a prime, quite a few limitations especially when i need to go to wide-angle but this is certainly going to be my walk-around lens now.

I guess its true what they say, once you try out fast lenses, you wont be able to go back! :bsmilie:

I had to give up my 18-70 kit now! Thanks for the reviews people!

Daneal,
CONGRATS! you managed to buy a Nikon mount version ? Where did you get it from?

most imptly how much? hahaha ;)

hehe wah congrats?..like i won an award like that :bsmilie:

i got it from a fellow CS member who prefers using his primes thus he decided to let it go. Lens was fairly new (about 5 months old) and in mint condition. Sold it to me for 550 which is a good deal as i think its selling for 660 new at the stores? (assuming you can get it though). Still has 7 months warranty

anyways, lens is a sharp copy and i guess this will put an end to my purchases for awhile (kinda broke now LOL) but you know what...2.8 lenses are :thumbsup::thumbsup:

i can see why this lens is ever so popular eh

Im using D200 too. I printed few pic in 4R and 8R family photo using nikon 18-200mmVR lens ISO100 F/5.6 1/60 and notice the colour is very flat, btw I dont do PP. Looking at the LCD the pic look good but until I printed out I notice so much different campare to film SLR taken using 50mm prime at the same time. Very disapointed with the picture I took.

Can someone share the setting in the camera eg. satuation, sharpness...etc?

Why dont you try your 50mm on the D200.

What is the supply situation for the Tamron SP AF 17-50MM F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] A16N here in Singapore ?

I believe that the Tamron stock of the new Tamron SP AF 17-50MM F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF]A16NII (Nikon F Mount with built in motor) will be available in March 2008.
