any idea how much is this lens at the stores? it should be around 650 last time i checked. anyways, i heard its about 500+ in hong kong!

i wonder if the new version is out in HK during good friday weekend...
may be there...

still pondering if i should spend 2k on 17-55 or just get the new tammy + sigma 30 1.4

got my new tammy 17-50 from Edison (SLS) non warranty set at $567 including gst. you can test till you are satisfied before purchasing..

Hmmm...i guess you'll have to try it out for yourself to see which you prefer. the 17-55 is a great lens but in comparing with the tamron, you might find a little surprise here and there.

Someone was pointing out to me the MTF numbers on photozone in comparing the two.

the nikkor is rather expensive but the build quality is really good. i see alot of people selling them these days..not sure why but we dont really see much of the tamron being sold probably because its a great lens for its price!

Made in China or Japan ?

non-warranty? Mine was gray set, but had a 1 year shop warranty.

so where u bought yours and how much?

I was thinking maybe it's more worth to buy grey sets for tammy lenses because the warranty sets also take a longer time to repair and they probably send back overseas to repair?

just got my from TCW at $650 (nikon mount) with a year warranty

do they have any more stocks? did you get a sharp copy?
thanks

So there's a one year shop warranty. Can this Edison place really fix lenses? I seriously think you've made a mistake purchasing from here.

not sure about this Edison place, when i got my lens, shop warranty for the grayset means they will send back to Japan for repair. Anyway, my 1 year almost up and the lens is still good as gold. (keeping fingers crossed).

was quoted $600 at OP a month ago

Edison and TCW have stock?

called TCW yest, they have stock but grey set with 1 year shop warranty. $650. I realised price hasn't dropped much since a full year ago..

I would expect that the price might drop a bit when the version with the built-in motor is released... but we do not know when that would be. Tamron simply announced the development, but not when it would be in the market. By that time, this version may have stopped production.

It is no surprise that the price has not dropped much as this is one very good lens  ... and I personally think it is one of the best 3rd party lenses. I have been thinking of getting the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 recently (that's the BBB virus at work :bsmilie:), but when I ask myself how much better it would be... and noting that the price of the Nikon is 3x the price of the Tamron, I happily decided to stick with the Tamron. The Tamron is almost as sharp as some prime lenses at f/2.8. Normally, a fast lens wide open is a little soft, but not the Tamron... and have won some awards for it...

$650 is expensive for a grey set. $650 should get you a local set with extended warranty. Or has the price of this lens gone up?

Yeah, totally agree, for its price, this lens is really a gem.
