I.S i no $$$ to buy, can buy 3nd party only

My case is a bit complicated, cos I currently owned the 17-85IS.

If I buy the Tamron (for the constant f2.8;p ), chances are I'll keep the 17-85IS as I find the IS feature quite handy at times. I am very lazy to carry tripod.

But if I do that, then I am tying up funds for 2 lens which can almost help to fund the purchase of the 17-55IS.. so must well go for it 1 shot & sell the 17-85IS to get the 17-55IS

But I do agree it's kinda overprice, heart very pain if I really buy it. High chance that I will still use the primes most of the time. :(

went to MS color. Sold out, whoa so fast:cry:

CP and J316 don't have it either.. guess it is a hot seller.

Hmmm I own the 17-35 F2.8-4, which is bought for ard the same price. Is the 17-50mm as sharp as the 17-35? Should i upgrade to the 17-50 ?

1/2 the price, longer reach, 1 stop faster, but no USM. Worth it? Definitely for me it is :bsmilie:
i second that.. the lense is in the store now.. BBB :)

which one would you choose for shooting weddings? (I would compare the tamron with the sigma17-70, around the price range)

>>sigma 17-70mm f2.8-f4.5 - useful marco & zoom range, but more soft at extreme border?
http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/sigma_1770_2845/index.htm

>>tamron 17-50 f2.8 - better resolution(MTF50) but more distortion / field curvature at wide-end?
http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/tamron_1750_28/index.htm

e.g.
which lense have a more serious weakness?
which weakness more serious or less tolerated?
which one better built & handling?

:dunno:

I think more impt for you to try yourself and experience what the strengths and weakness are. But for me, a constant 2.8 is a better plus for weddings. 50mm is long enough for most situations if you are not a pro (most pros use 2 bodies with different combo lens anyway)..

hi..
i'm very interested with this lens..

any comments from owners about the focusing speed ? and does it go hunting in low light ?
or any comparison with sigma 18-50 ?

Where can I get this at a good price..

Focus speed very fast!
low light also not so bad with its big aperture
