I was there and out in less then 15mins, in a hurry.

What did I tell him? I only told him that I called many shops on Sat morning and all say lens have not come yet, even AP Sim Lim told me that not in yet  .

Lens is not bad at all, very acceptable image at 2.8, which is what i need.

yup. dats wat he told me too. :)

have fun! would love to see some sample images soon. i couldn't bring home the images from last fri when i was testing it on the 30D.

This lens is a bit soft wide open. But for small prints, i think it is usable and distortion is ok for me. It is quite sharp at F4.

These are the pics taken with this lens. All at 17mm. Just resized them to fit in the page. No editing done. Correct me the way i tooks these are wrong.

Taken at AP on Saturday. F2.8 1/50 ISO 200 with 350D

This was taken near my block. Didn't take any F4 at AP. At F4, centre cropped image.

I think there is little vignetting at 17 mm..

Cheers...:cheergal:

It would be great if you could also post the uncropped pic of the brick wall

At least to me, the pics from the lens seems to be very reasonable.
Might consider getting this lens rather than a 17-40L
 Great job mtunlinn

The lighting is uneven for the brick wall on the right side. That's why i didn't post. All r shot handheld.. It might be better if i used tripod at AP.

I'll post some more if i can find something good to compare the sharpness..

Cheers..

look at ur picture, i just take a shot to compare
this is sigma 17-70 at 17mm and f/2.8
iso 800, 1/30s handheld

it seems sharper, isn't it?
or is it because my cam only 6mpx?
different settings and lighting conditions + some other factors which will lead to different results.
Unless shooting the same scene with same settings.

I am using this lens for mostly shooting people indoors using f/2.8. Maybe my is expectation not that high, but at 2.8, this is good enough for me. :embrass:

Of course I am waiting, thinking of getting my bicycle fork first :p
But the portrait pic does look a little soft on the eye........... But i think for general purposes, it should suffice

It is seriously very soft for 17mm@2.8

We should not expect excellent sharpness at 17mm@2.8 coz u'll pay what u'll get.

Too bad I broke my Canon 50mm 1.8, else can shoot at 50mm@2.8 to compare how much difference in sharpness to the Tamron at 50mm@2.8 for the portrait shot. Of cos the prime will win hands down, but I think main thing here is to see how much sharper.

I think should setup something like dpreview and then compare from corner to corner.

check if got focus problem
last time my lens also blur
i checked and reallize front focus problem
and i exchanged for new set (within 7 days), now nice at f/2.8

if f/2.8 is too blur to be acceptable then no point get f/2.8

yup clicknick, your portrait pics seem alright to me too.
Enjoy your new toy and Keep shooting.:)
Got wedding need PA let me know.
