Think its the misnomer that is confusing everyone here.

It should be termed 'constant aperture' instead.

Yes it should.

I think it is termed as constant aperture, but many rephrase or put in place a synonym, that is "fixed" instead of "constant". Theoretically, it isn't incorrect, as your aperture is a fixed maximum aperture of f/2.8, but it isn't a fixed aperture of f/2.8 only.

Yah, I am waiting for Alan to get their stock in, but so far no news.

Orient Photo selling grey set $600-$620, 3yrs shop warranty. Wonder if should go for grey set.

Grey set , 3 yrs shop warranty? How does this work? Does cleaning and calibration also included?

Not too sure about that. You'll have to call up the shop to check.

I will wait for a local warranty set in the mean time.

I'm considering this lens, so this is lens is constant f2.8 for all range 17-50mm rite?

yes, correct. unless you chooses to stop down to f4, f5.6, the widest you can go is f2.8

If anyone finds this lens for Nikon mount, do share the news here please. Really hard to find now.

Ok, finally after searching for a month, found and bought a piece of the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 from a shop in Peninsula Plaza. Was in touch with Tamron agent and they directed me to the shop to get it. K13 is the shop, 2nd floor above Bata. For those who want to get it, hurry, very very limited stock left there as well.

There is a guy in K-13 (could be the owner), and if you inquire and at the end dun want to buy, you may get a earfull from him... so beware. He has a shop opposite the road (near TCW)... dunno if it is still there.

$700 is pretty high... looks like the prices have increased. You can get it at Lord's at about $640 or TK at about $660... but got to wait for stocks.

Oh... for the 3 year warranty to be valid, you got to send out the card within a week.

The owner of the shop, a Mr Tan was who the agent directed me to and was quite a friendly chap.

It was below $700, depending on your bargaining skills like I mentioned.

Oh, yes! I also got my Nikon mount from the same shop, 3 hours ago!
The shop owner is a very, very nice gentltman. He told me that I got his last Nikon mount, & now only left with one Canon mount.

Oh, also got it "below $700"....

Cheers !

Hi, i'm having a trip to Taiwan this month. I'm thinking of getting the Tamron 17-50, but wondering the warranty is usable here if i getting a international warranty? I've ever bought a Sigma 50-150 before and it's way cheaper than here. So now looking forward to bargain for a constant f2.8 lens. Any recommendation? Else if in Hongkong, which shop to get cheaper lens as i'm flying off 2nd week after Taiwan trip.

I'm not sure about Taiwan... but for HK... u can check out the following. Just make sure it is not a grey set u are buying and it has international warranty.

If you're shooting serious landscape work, you'd be on a tripod anyways.

At this range, you can go without IS... but in longer telephotos, e.g. 200mm, IS would become very useful...

Anyways... you can have a look at some shots I took in HK & Macau recently... I only carried this one lens with me throughout the whole trip...
