How feasible is shooting with this lens handheld? Assuming just short 1-1.5 hour shooting sessions each time

Not feasible... unless you have strong big arms... I used this for airshow recently. Mount it on a monopod for an hour. Tried to hand held it at home, for a few shots no problem but for shooting sessions you should be tired out.

For me, I prefer not to wear off myself too much when shooting.. If you have a 70-200 f2.8, this lens will be around 50% heavier plus minus that kind of feel.

Also take note that this is a zoom lens and one of your hand will be on the zoom ready for zooming in/out and hence that makes it more fatigue to hand held and shoot over a period of time....

But of course as I have said, you might be someone with really strong arms who can handle this... for me I am an average man so to say...
:bsmilie:

not sure, will try out tomorrow unless someone else knows...

if u can shoot 00mm at 2.7m,the subject will be very big.
the 600mm prime has MFD of about 4.5m.
2.7m at 600mm is a good thing especially shooting birds or smaller subjects.

Depend on how strong and how good a stamina you have. For me... 1 to 1.5 hours is child play, but this definitely not a lens for me to go for entire day of shooting like I normally do when I want to go out for a shoot (my shooting sessions normally last 6 hours and above).

sometimes can for wild bird.
at least this is something when u need it,it is there..
i ever tried to shoot a few birds that were too close for my MFD and no space for me to move back anymore.

confirmed, MFD 2.7m at 150mm and 600mm. Super :)

Pigeons shoot already also don't dare to post bro. Wait my taiwanese birding friends laugh at me.

haha, but on a serious note, let me relate 2 incidents i can remember vividly til now.
one was shooting the oriental dwarf, this bird was very friendly and many of use were triggering happily..but ofcourse for improved shots,we tried to find a position that can give a much nicer looking background and we spotted a position but the place was so cramped(at most 2 person can squeeze and shoot) and limited space to move back..damn my MFD 4.5m can't focus..the bird was about 4.2-4.3m away.
another one was shooting the crimson female which i haven't got yet til now,the bird was perching quite low(about 2m in height) and doesn't seem to be afraid of human and the path was very narrow..behind me was a small pond that i can't move further back(i was less than 3m from the bird) anymore..i could move to the side but the angle was blocked on the bird..
when i just started shooting birds,i didn't really care about the MFD and thought how could i possibly get so near to birds..
just sharing for those who may consider this lens..cheers.

Happened to me too bro. When I was waiting for the swinhoe's pheasant in the moutains of central Taiwan, a White-whiskered Laughingthrush jumped out and hopped very close to me till I was unable to focus... My lens' MFD is around 3m. finally it moved a little and I shifted a little and managed to get the eye into focus... but burst the frame. Here... uncropped.
