Tamron 150-600mm F5-6.3 ultra-telephoto zoom

I'm quite impressed with the VR on this lens. I have shaky hands problem (too much caffeine), but the VR still enabled me to shoot relatively ok photos handheld at 500-600mm with shutter speed of as low as 1/200. Similar attempts to shoot handheld with the Tamron 70-300 VR yielded fairly unusable shots.

Limited pieces of Canon mount now available! I got the last piece from MS Color today:

Thanks! I hope all bros who have been waiting for this lens managed to get their copy from this shipment

Still waiting for Nikon mount....zzzz....

MS Color and TK both quoted $1699. 95mm Nissi filter another $1xx

Yes, I heard the prices have gone up... all telling me the distributor up the pricing...

Anyone knows when the nikon version will be out ? Was at ms color earlier and they don't have any info.

How feasible is shooting with this lens handheld? Assuming just short 1-1.5 hour shooting sessions each time

Not feasible... unless you have strong big arms... I used this for airshow recently. Mount it on a monopod for an hour. Tried to hand held it at home, for a few shots no problem but for shooting sessions you should be tired out.

For me, I prefer not to wear off myself too much when shooting.. If you have a 70-200 f2.8, this lens will be around 50% heavier plus minus that kind of feel.

Also take note that this is a zoom lens and one of your hand will be on the zoom ready for zooming in/out and hence that makes it more fatigue to hand held and shoot over a period of time....

But of course as I have said, you might be someone with really strong arms who can handle this... for me I am an average man so to say...
:bsmilie:

Depend on how strong and how good a stamina you have. For me... 1 to 1.5 hours is child play, but this definitely not a lens for me to go for entire day of shooting like I normally do when I want to go out for a shoot (my shooting sessions normally last 6 hours and above).

After having tried this lens over 3 weekends, I find that it's feasible to handhold this lens for my own use - 2 to 3 hour sessions at parks or wooded areas hunting for birds. This is especially so at parks, as there are usually railings or pillars I can sometime use to brace myself to help stability. There's also time to rest your arms while walking from point to point looking for birds to shoot. I'm no muscleman (I'm actually a fat man!), and I really hardly do exercise, so for those of you concerned about the weight of this lens for casual use similar to mine, it's really not that heavy!

I'm still saving up for a good tripod investment, as I think it will be essential to get better shots, but this allows me to save up longer to get a really good tripod when I can afford it since I'm still able to continue shooting handheld in the meantime while saving up!

Got it from Tk@1650 today ;p

Hi to bros interested in this lens,

Last thur I took my gal on stage with this lens at f5,150mm handheld.
Im just a hobbyist.
I was quite satisfied with the sharpness that it delivers.
Not very heavy holding at eye level.

Cheers.

Tamron Singapore Facebook post today:

The brand new 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 DI II VC PZD both Canon and Nikon will be available from 28th Apr 2014 Onwards!!!!! Also, new stocks of 150-600mm F/5-6.3 DI VC USD will be available on the same day for both Nikon and Canon mount. Please visit our dealers for more details.

I myself already bought the Canon version. Not as near quick in AF as the Canon 70-200 F2.8 Mk2 but about just as sharp. The VC works well but a little noisy. Hardly use at 600mm for pics of soccer action but I guess for watersports as in yachting, skiing and as well as birding, it will be great

Got the nikon mount just now.

Sharp and fast for first impressions!
