Tamron 150-600mm F5-6.3 ultra-telephoto zoom

i was too lazy to type a similar example..hehe
Glad that u shared yours..anyway a nice shots but shame on the tail being "cut off"
anyway your lens 3m MFD include TC or not yet?

Actually the specs of my lens say MFD is the same with or without TC. That is Nikon's claim that Nikon TC will not change the MFD of any Nikon lens.
And I was mistaken, the MFD is 2.5m not 3m. My lens is the first version of the Nikon AF-S 300/2.8D in production from 1996-2001. Oldie but still going strong. Optical formula has not changed yet till now, just VR added.

superb shot of the White-whiskered Laughingthrush dd123!

Thanks bro. This picture did not make the cut due to the cut off tail and i shot a lot of much better pictures of this bird. It can only be found in the mountains of central Taiwan. But they are quite easy to shoot.

yup, saw your Taiwan birding thread, definitely plus plus

being a birder on budget, i'm always on a look-out for "bang-for-the-buck" equipment ;) after reading all the +ve reviews on this lens, i rented it for a day to test it before seriously thinking of buying it.

my initial outing with it was a "disaster" as the scene i was shooting was very challenging for most camera's focusing system. then i tested in on "more friendly" feathered friends in my neighbourhood and this lens proved to be very capable up to 550mm, stop down to f8.

my current setup is EF400f5.6 + kenko 1.4TC which can AF on 70D, both OVF and LV. It AF very well in LV mode on the 70D because of the dual-pixel sensor AF. so, my layman assessment will be at 560mm, how well can the tammy perform. AF is decently quick, definitely quicker than my current setup. But it does hunt under low-light / shady environment (eg. under leaves or under shade). So, in this aspect, the tammy met my requirement.

now, the image quality. i guess, a picture is worth a thousand words.

here are some test shots to share~

cute sparrow

552mm, f6.3, iso1600, 1/400s, tripod

olive-backed sunbird

552mm, f8, iso800, 1/200s, tripod

brown-throated sunbird

552mm, f8, iso400, 1/200s, tripod

pink-necked green pigeon

600mm, f8, iso1600, 1/640, handheld, vc on

no sharpening done on all the shots.

my user conclusion is this lens is very capable up to 550mm and is able produce very good quality images. it will not be able to produce what the big guns can produce in terms of details but for the price tag it has on it, this will be one of the "bang-for-the-buck" stuff. tough decision for me now... haha...

cheers & take care!

good personal review wk2004! Images looks very good with feather details (especially the sparrow), impressive that there was no sharpening applied

Sounds Promising!

Might get one :)

In techno gadgets site they announced the availability of tamron 150-600 mm nikon mount for 1450$.

So we need to check with local shops for the availability .....

Nikon mount available @ MS Color as at 2pm today. Anyone know when Canon mount will be restocked?

any new proud owners to share your photos?

Has new stock come in? Just called tk foto and ms color and they still don't know when new stock is coming. I rented this lens today and took it for a spin at sbwr, but I haven't downloaded the pics yet. I'm a huge newbie though, so I don't hold any hopes for the kind of awesome pics that you guys have been posting

Some sports shot with this lens. The range is particularly useful in watersports, where you can get enough reach at 600mm when shooting from the shore and at the same time wide enough at 150mm when shooting on water.
