hi fellow strobists,
It seems that even the best canon camera, 1ds mk3, has a sync speed of only 1/250s.
my 500d sync at 1/200s.
I find that quite a number of my images cannot be used due to motion blur.
Do you guys have this problem? you guys solve it by using a tripod? i always forget to slow down when shooting, maybe this is the cause .. ;p
:vhappy:
theoretically the cam wont go further than 1/250s if you're talking about off flash photography. but how about trying out and pushing your cam to the limit? 1/320s may sometimes work.. like wat i've tried on a D700 and my very own Fuji S5. there's a slight banding... but we can always crop that out isn't it? its your piece of equipment so always try out at your own freetime. have fun trying!!
yes i will try this.. i keep forgetting.. the other thing is working distance ...
i dunno the reason behind for the slow sync speed.. d40 can sync at 1/500s... perhaps canon and nikon wan to force us to buy their small flashes to power softbox etc...
its about the shutter...electronic shutter vs mechanical shutter. correct me if i'm wrong.. :embrass:

motion blur or the af cannot focus in time? flash shld be able to freeze reasonably fast movement and high end system can freeze almost anything.

tks for your help.. i think it is the AF hunting in low light. The fact that there is no modeling lamp does not help in the situation.
I found out that one of my pics taken during the profoto demo is 1/100s and it is sharp. The 2 wedding models are seated during the demo.
Always have a flash light at hand hehehe helps sometimes
oh yes.. i was thinking about it.. in fact i tell myself to bring my LED torch light..
but will it create some weird colors since we are mixing light? unless i turn the torch away before i click, but then the AF won't be accurate again..

Does your Yong Nuo have focus-assist? It helps in focusing in low-light setting.
You are only using the torchlight to focus. Once you got AF confirmation just lock focus and turn off the torchlight.
i guess this will only be useful when i use f8.. if i am using f/1.8, i might miss the focus by a little...
in such situations, those big lights with modelling lamp really helps... not those that will switch off automatically to save battery (wonder if they exists haha).. so it will mean u need lots of battery power if on location..
