SINGAPORE -- Singapore will start publicly shaming retailers who cheat tourists, naming the offenders in brochures, maps and an official website, officials said.

Retail-related grouses made up more than half of the 800 complaints from the eight million tourists who visited this tropical island last year, the Singapore Tourism Board said in a statement on Wednesday.

The board started its offensive on Wednesday by naming a camera shop in the heart of Orchard Road.

More on the shop that was named here.

They just start for tourist only...how about local buyers? Anyway it's a good start.

Crucify them!

Hiee....

Looks like the Tourism reason is just a cover up (reason) maybe...as its high time the government assist ALL consumers to take action against all these "retailers".....

Tourism may spread their bad experiences back in their homeland........indirectly affecting the tourist spending here in Singapore .... hence affecting the ECONOMY!!!!!

...Bravo!!!!.....

rgds...
me

well it is a start and a good at that

Tell that to the Ah Bengs(aka Thugs) that run these places. Their pea-sized Neanderthaloid brains are not able to process the logic of your statement.

if the authorities look at this forum, they wont have problems finding which to blacklist :D

Quote from CNA website,

"One shop that has been on the receiving end of this recent crack down is the House of Cameras and Electronics which is located at Lucky Plaza Shopping Centre."

wat about the famous one in SLS?? shouldnt they be "nominated" for the award? :bsmilie:

did anyone watch the news on channel 8 just now? they showed a clip of house of camera when an employee spotted the crew filming and actually gestured with his middle finger towards them!

the gesture was digitally blanked, but still..the nerve!

now we await the day this shop will be closed as from today onwards noone will ever setp their foot in, except flies maybe :blah:

Actually, not much use. This shop once blacklisted will simply change name and they are back on business again.

Just like the famous "Furniture Town" case, where owner just change name again and again a dozen times. :dunno:

ah ... just a matter of time perhaps. ;)

saw in yesterday 10pm channel 8 news. There is a camera shop in SIM LIM Square being black listed. more than 40 complaints within 6 months (I hope I remember correctly). The boss or worker in the shop even point middle finger to the cameraman when the channel 8 crew filming!
