Do i smell an MO?
tankm said:Have checked price with the seller. He does have the screen for KM 5D.
1pc is around SG$132
5pc is around SG$128 per piece w/gst (US$72 x 5 + US$8 + 5% GST as it's more than SG$400). If escape GST will be around SG$122 per piece.
The price is high compare to KM original charges for KM7D, plus have to self install.
pai said:hmm a few dollars here and there not such an issue, since it's already so ex :sticktong
i'm definitely interested lah, but curious about how it performs. and of course i'm worried about installation - don't have steady hands, and AS is not going to help this time hehe.
wonder how well it works with macro lens, wonder how dark it will be with my slow slow lenses, wonder if the original focus points will be kept or not, wonder if it affects metering, esp spot meter...
someone buy and try leh...
pai said:generally seems to have good reviews. not gonna work too well with my 18-200 at the long end, but that lens not suitable for use in poor light anyway.
tankm, when you gonna buy?
fastshot said:I had not cut a focusing screen before, but I can suggest the following:
- check the thickness of the screens. If they are very close, then OK to try, otherwise forget it (I think the DSLR screen is thinner than SLR screen).
- make appropriate measurements and markings on the screen to be cut to size.
- use a perspex cutter to make the deep grooves on the smooth side of the screen. Find a nice sharp edge to snap the extra bits off the screen. (practice on some other hard plastics first).
- Use a Dremel tool with attachments such as sand paper or fine sanding stone then grind the edges of the screen down to size.
Note that the grooved side of the screen is extremely delicate and is easily damaged by force or use of cleaning chemicals. So chances is that you will screw it up unless you are DIY expert. But it's worth a try and tell us your experience. Good luck![]()
