Missed my split screen from my old film camera and KM has nothing for 5D, so not much of a choice. Need this to aid manual focusing, especially macro and also AF focus confirmation as well. Have tried on subject which are close together and the AF sensor can be fool into locking on the wrong subject. The split screen clearly shows which is the subject is in focus.
There is four parts for the 5D screen. The screen clip, follows by the first screen closest to the mirror which is the focus screen. This follows by a metal frame and finally the focus spot screen. For the KM 5D screen installation, you will not get it wrong because if installed wrongly it will not fit/sit properly. The two screens has indent to ensure proper fitting.
There is nothing to cut. Just replace the focus screen (first screen) with the split screen and ensure the shiny surface is facing the mirror. The split screen is slightly smaller, I think is to allow for alignment adjustment, but mine no matter how cannot get it to center properly. Tried both direction nothing helps. For warranty, just have to remember to swap back the original screen.
If the shiny surface is faced the wrong way, during focus confirm, the split screen does not indicate proper focus.

do let us know of the outcome of your enquiry. Also, did you have to do any cutting to fit to the D5D?
