Speedlite 600EX-RT

Thanks chengpenguin, seems like those included filters are the first for canon's speedlites.

Yup. But strangely, Canon never mention of any other colour correction filter other than the 2 amber included. I hope they come up with a series of colour correction filters since it seems quite neat on the 600EX-RT.

The included filter holder includes sleeves for 4 filters.

Hi, observe any improvement in recycle time compared to 580ex2 ?

Never tested the recycling. Will update when I have the info.

Another worthy mention is the beeper that you can enable to inform you of a full recycle charge. Great when doing strobing. But don't think it beeps in normal hotshoe mode.

So which means i may not have to get a stofen already.

Thanks again, maybe i'll get mine later next week.

I'm not sure how the test shots would help you decide whether the 600EX is good... But in general, it is good companion with 5D3 due to the 61-pt support.

Do you think it is possible to set up tripod, and shoot without flash, with 430/ 580 then with 600EX RT.... if you have the time???

I just thought if they make the ST-E3 with RT and optical, and use AA batteries, many ST-E2 user (including me) will be upset.... But I wished they have done that instead... And I wish can AF in low light too..... with the red grid....

I like this flash.... but gonna need to save money for this..... & ST-E3 too.......

Wonder how much that STE3 would cost.... I worry canon will upgrade one with optical in future....

Has any Bro used 600EX for events already???

I was shooting a 4-5 hrs events for my company, and I was using the 580II w/ Batt Pack....

Half way thru, I my flash to was not firing and I could not fire at all.... if I remember correctly, this is the flash function to protect the flash blub right??? Any suggestions on how to overcome this, as there was a lot of dancing, and singing... and almost like continuous??? I thought that it was cos the battery was out of juice, but think I was wrong... but the batteries were also hot....

Anyone know where to get these???

Is there any diff if use theses compared to normal Eneloop??? One is 2700mAh & the other being 2000mAh....... also, noticed that the XX have a shorter life span too....

Very likely. Canon will say, we listen to our users feedback and launch ST-E3 EX II but actually, Canon wants to pwn our wallets deep deep :bsmilie:

I think you can get these at many shops. East Gear, RDP all should have.

These are more powerful than ordinary Eneloops, and similar to PowerEx 2700 mAH batteries.

That sounds like your Flash shutting down due to overheating, getting different batteries won't directly help with that.

You can try using a higher iso to reduce the amount of flash power required to avoid overheating, or you can keep a backup flash to swap when the first flash overheats.

Agreed. We can overcome science, so we should work around it :)

Thanks bro... will check these out..... ;)

I think the Eneloop have pretty good life span.... especially those 1500 cycles.....

How many do you have???

The next day, when I tried the batteries, they all were very well behaved.... and recycle rate is still pretty fast.... so I believe it is overheated.... sigh.... but it is sure a challenge.... if you have 4-5 hrs events.... or I used wrong strategy.....

I actually have a 420EX on 400D with 85mm on the other body. My main was a 17-55mm, 7D, 580EX II, batt pack.

Maybe cos with batt pack, recycle faster, so I got the flash heated up faster.... but it was already 3+ hrs already when it happens....

MMm..... I did not know ISO could make a difference...... but it does seems logical..... says if ISO up from 200 to 800 will be 2 stop, and flash power is lesser.......

Thanks for this tip bro...... ;)

I am saving up for a 600 EX so I can swap and still can use with batt pack.....

Is it common for Event Photog to swap flashes???

I guess I will save up for the 600 EX RT... it has always been my plan, and that flash will work well with 580II as back up.... and slowly get more RT units.....

I really not sure if should buy the ST-E3 so soon, as unlike the ST-E2 that was much cheaper... I think ST-E3 is not gonna to be cheap.... maybe $500 range..... but that is pretty EX lor.... ST-E2 is gonna to be retried soon......

Canon really give me headaches....haha........
