Sony Zeiss FE24-70/F

Due to d mirror in d laea4?

I think should not be 1 full stop slower but maybe -.3 to max -.7 light loss but with A7 and A7r good high ISO performance shouldn't matter much you could bump the ISO higher to compensate

this is a good lens but the price is almost 1k more than FE2470

Just reading online its say the adapter make it half stop slower. This lens + adapter around 3k and above

sony centre imm mounted a7r test model with Zeiss 24-70/2.8

anybody know how this lens perform with a7r? AF still quite good and weight stil ok.but sales guy say with the ea4 adapter the lens no more 2.8. he say 1 full stop slower.

it's more like 1/3 to 1/2 a stop of light loss due to translucent mirror =)
my friend uses this combo and the only complaint is form factor and weight around the neck

light transmission lower due to the translucent mirror diverting light to the PDAF sensors, but bokeh will still be that of a F2.8 lens.

Yes... Bokeh still as it is look at your ISO... LOL

I agree. It's a bit disturbing to see a manufacturer cutting costs by producing subpar optics that require software correction to produce usable photos.

And even more disturbing when it's charging premium prices for it. Think most people aren't cheapskates , but really just wish to have their monies worth.

One of the reasons why old glasses are so much in demand is the joy of just getting an adapter and being able to use it on your current cameras , can u imagine being unable to use your precious glass if one day the company decides not to produce any software updates for it in the newer bodies as the glass were subpar to start with?

A few manufacturers are already using camera software to make up for deficiency in lens design. At the very least, they are solution. Sony has quite literally, nothing. Even their own lens correction app is not available to us.

Sony is very slow with introducing firmware/software (if they ever appear). Thus, I won't put too much hope for the firmware to appear soon.

The IQ of the 24-70F4 with the high price currently does not create enough "kick" to buy - for me. So I am using the small and petite Sony pancake zoom Nex E mount 16-50mm for cropped mode. Not perfect, but with the super cheap price of less than $200 and size that I can keep in my pocket, it is quite good enough for me, as a backup travel lens, since I use my 55FE as a permanent lens most of the time.

I am using A7R, so the cropped file size is around 15mpx, good enough. With the cropped mode, the 16-50mm becomes 24-75mm effectively.

The price of this petite pancake zoom is around 8-10x cheaper than 24-70F4, but it is probably not 8x worse in IQ.

$200 down from RRP $500? really?

Buy brand new kit lens from users having a Nex with kit set but dont want it. RRP is around $500, but you can get a brand new mint set from Nex users with full warranty for less than $200. Super cheap and good.

Sharp at the centre, stop down slightly to improve the corners. Size is really pancake and slip into pocket easily. Virtually silent zoom, and on a A7/R, it just looks so perfect without attracting attention... And no one realised that it is actually a very capable zoom with good reach of 75mm cropped.

I sold mine for $180, kind of miss it

If I were you, I would have kept it as backup. Very competent lens with very good built quality. $180 cant get any lenses better than this. Even the Sigma 19mm is around $250, with worse corner sharpness. Bulkier than 16-50mm in size.

For cropped mode in case of sudden need, the IQ is very good as centre is very sharp for most focal length, and 16mm is equivalent to wide angle at 24mm. Stop down a bit and it can be used for landscape lens. Probably not perfect for building with perfect straight lines, as 24-70F4 also cant do.

I am keeping it in my pouch when go out with my A7R & 55FE. Change to 16-50mm pancake when need to shoot wider shots like group photos, or slightly better reach at 75mm.

The size is just incredible. Nearly half of 35FE.

So for this 16-50mm = 24-75mm. Nearly 10x cheaper than 24-70F4.

I sold mine for $180, kind of miss it

the 1650 is a great compact lens.
however whenever I need something compact I use this lens on the nex6 instead because on the a7r..oss is disabled

We shouldn't have to resort to begin with quite frankly. Its makes A7R totally pointless.

Read from websites that Sony is investigating on the A7/R firmware and may likely restore the OSS back when the new firmware recognises it with OSS.

Finger crossed. This will be a super deal for a sharp compact zoom with OSS... at an impossible price of less than $200!

In fact, I think the price for this lens will go up if they introduce the firmware to enable its OSS!

Not using this as main lens, but as backup. I know cropped is not ideal, but when in need, 15mpx is still useable.

I highly doubt they will. . sony doesn't know that firmwares can be updated! They never ever release new firmwares. . they just release a new camera. and they left out ONLY the 2 kit lenses the 1650 and 55210... I'm pretty sure they left them out on purpose

Hope they will. They did firmware updates for Nex 7 too, when we thought they will never do that. They introduced firmware version 1.02 after quite a while after first launch of Nex 7. The last update was version 1.03, very slow but they did it.

Hope this update won't take long, though quite happy without the OSS for now, since I am using it as backup lens.

i hope so too..not so much for he 1650 since i can use the NEX6 for that but...the 55210 is actually a really good tele lens and if OSS works on the A7r...then it'll be fantastic for the zoo..don't need to carry monopod and heavy A mount tele lenses anymore :)
