Sony Zeiss FE24-70/F

Some comparison shot on this link
http://www.the.me/a-worthy-24mm-zoom-the-zeiss-vario-tessar-24-70mm-f4-for-sony-a7r/

I might not be good in details but lens seems quite on par compared to 35mm and 55mm.

it's a good write up and comparison..
It goes to show this lens is pretty decent and with correction, it can keep up with the primes but only for photos online because they are small anyways.
However, the author only tested the lenses at really small apertures like f8-f11...and at those apertures, you don't see the "pop" of images that the primes can give.
So yea, although he mentioned it's a great lens, i also think it's only great at a certain aperture and certain things you shoot. it will definately not come close to the primes at larger apertures like f4

*cough cough*... quite on par with FE 35 & FE 55??

yeah agree the author shoot like F11 and F14, the lens is not all bad but most folks complain the price than the IQ in general I am a very forgiving and non demanding person when it comes to lenses but for the price I m expecting something much much better in terms of performance :). Like the famous quote in Singapore "You pay Peanuts.. what do you get? Monkey..." in the case of this lens I pay golden faucet what do I get? hehe (just kidding)

:)

So what's the point having a f4 constant aperture if can't take satisfying photos?
If shoot at f8-11 might as well use the kit lens?
Wonder any review out there did a comparisons between the 2 at these small aperture...
Hmmm...I am abit disappointed, sold off my a77 & 16-50 SSM which I am very happy with to fund my a7.

Bro 16-50 is an awesome lens :-) I have a brief encounter with this lens when I still have A77 and it's pretty awesome but I choose 16-80 I find this lens suite my needs more that the SAL16-50 also I have Tamron 1750 so was not really interested with the Sony one.

Yodabashi i love it... Play with many camera & lenses as well as looking for cheap omega watches compared to spore prices.

I am no pro like u bros so pics look pretty much the same to me whether using 24-70, 28-70 or cv 35 1.2 but i did particular like 2 shots I taken with rx1 previously

Looks like Yodobashi at Akihabara?

I miss Yodobashi - it's a "sight" to me whenever I go Tokyo…..hahaha…..

The 2470 definitely isn't going to match the FE55...don't even need to compare these 2 lenses.
However, i do believe this lens makes the FE35 quite redundant.
THe only plus for the FE35 is it's size.
It's only 1 stop faster but the 2470 has OSS which pretty much makes up for that one stop in low light.
IQ wise, both at F4..at 35mm, you won't be able to tell the difference unless you zoom in 100%

I'm beginning to think i should sell my 35mm since the benefits of this 2470 outweighs the benefits of the smaller and 1 stop faster FE35mm.

I have similar thoughts too. Was deciding to pair 35 or 55 with 2470. In the end settle for 55 after reading the reviews.

For me, I just wanna carry 2 lens around. One for general zoom & one prime.

Yeah really interested to see difference between kit lens and Zeiss.
With kit lens its forgiving if require processing work. But Zeiss... Haiz...

I went through the same logic and decided to skip 35mm and buy 24-70 instead.
Now I'm not so sure anymore as I may not buy the FE 24-70 after all, waiting for a better FE lens or use LA-EA4 with A-mount lenses.
So the option for walk-around lens is back to: [a] FE 35mm or alternative normal zoom around 24-70 via adapter or wait for future FE

Choices ... choices ... wish Sony would just release the roadmap for the whole 15 lenses so that I can decide now whether to wait for FE or not

it seems like u dont have a walk around lens on your system yet. while the 2470 has the edge in versatility, its overall footprint is considerably huge in the world of mirrorless [ other ff cameras aside ]. I'll love to have the fe2470 but right now im really satisfied with the fe35mm. The overall size of the system , IQ and convinience of af is why the a7/r makes sense for hobbyist like me. It's not conspicuous. On my previous systems i am always alternating between neck strap and wrapping the strap around my hands when traveling . With the fe35mm paired with the gariz leather half case on the a7/r, i could hold it for long periods without having to attach any kind of strap. The lens hood's always on and slipping it into my camera bag's a breeze. Everything made simple. If 35mm's your kind of focal length, there's really no reason why u shouldn't consider it. you can wait and wait and end up under-using your system. If i were you, i'll get whatever's closest to my needs first instead of waiting. If you have no problems with mf, many relatively cheap lenses to choose from.

same feeling when I tried both lenses... but didnlt bought both hehehe I really wanted to have 24-70 very good range for travel as you don't need to change lenses often but 2470 broke my heart

I have 3 zoom lenses, no primes. Before making transition to primes, have to try shooting with the corresponding focal length for a while, and see whether I miss the versatility of the zoom or not.

I know I want the FE 55mm, but not so sure about the 35mm vs normal zoom. I think I'd rather have a normal zoom.

even I saw the reviews and some feedback here I thought I would give the lens a chance and I want to try it before I decide... anyways looking at other alternatives for now

Well, for jpg, the in camera correction fixes any issues..Adobe also released the lens profile for this already and for RAW, that issue is also resolved.
Price..it also drop price liao....will definitely drop further in time..
So far, the photos i see from other people who use this lens, i'm super impressed with what they can do..
I also have no issues with this lens in post...

I managed to find this person in flickr and i absolutely love his work and many of the photos are with this lens, just need to search his photos...some are with the D800 and the newer ones are with the a7r and 2470. you really can't tell which is which..he really uses this lens very well.

Kit lens also has distortion like the zeiss in the raw files, but corrected quite nicely in jpg. IQ at ctr wise, not as gd as zeiss. I have used the kit lens for a day of shoot, IQ at ctr so so, not noticeable if u dun zoom in. No time to try out the zeiss, but from the reviews, it looks slightly better than the kit.
