I know that this is quite controversial but if you look at a chart, the Leica lenses aren't really that sharp in the corners wide open. To my knowledge only imaging resources has published such a chart in their M9 review. I was shocked given Leica lens reputation. Also lensrentals has done some imatests. Unless you want the Leica look, the Zeiss are no better or worse IMHO

But I checked my pictures from my cron 35asph. Not many lenses can match d edge sharpness of my lens. Interesting to say tat cron 35 ASPH is not giving sharp corners. Haha

Corner sharpness also depends on whether the lens was tested with a FF (M9) or crop (NEX) body?

I will buy Leica lenses not only for corner sharpness but more so for rendering. And, I will agree that they must be used on FF bodies, otherwise their real characters will be quite lost. For most of us, the differences can be hair splitting and I have given up most of such lenses when I sold my FF body. On current NEX bodies, most lenses, even the current native lenses, are pretty good. But, if I can afford, the RX1 is a real keeper. More so, if I have 50k to splash, I might be tempted to try the M range finder with 3 key lenses plus an adapter for the Leica R 28-90f2.8. So, here we go again.

I wonder why the sonnar was chosen for the RX1 instead of the biogon lens design? Anyone?

the sony zeiss af lens are sonnar as well correct ? maybe easier to optimise ?

Sonnar, planar, etc, all have different purposes. Check the Zeiss page for a description. :)

Super kool... give us a detailed review ya...

Can't give you a review from a 10-min hands on. :-P

Still trying to convince myself to stick with Nex 7 + 24mm.. but the pictures just look too tempting. :D
Anyone having a similar dilemma?

What I view as an upgrade (other than PQ):
- more compact package (it seems like) as the 24mm sticks out quite abit, and easier to sling
- quieter shutter. quite a lot of random people on my last holiday commented my Nex 7 sounded abit like a machine gun (when using panorama)

Am considering this RX1 too. It's just too tempting for me judging from the IQ and its size. Will wait and see if it's worth the price.. if so, will sell off my canon prime 35 L lens to fund for this baby :)

the RX1's lens and sensor are tuned to work together as one. which will give you a mindblowing experience i suppose :bsmilie:
