Sony - RX1

Wait wait long time since Sony never announced a ff nex camera (other than the videocam)

Actually, I don't see the need for the RX1 if a NEX FF is possible in the near future. Maybe that's the reason why a NEX FF will be hard to come by. And also, the RX1 will still be cheaper than Thoth's 35f2 cron.

Because a simple, small but powerful FF package like the RX1 is very appealing for street photography.

Sony will be veeeeeery smart to hold back on a FF NEX, since the real source of profits (the lenses) will not materialize. People will not buy the A-mount lenses and LA-EA3 adapter, they will mount legacy lenses which Sony does not get profit from. Sure, they may sell some bodies, but might not be enough to offset the R&D, marketing and manufacturing costs. A FF NEX will be too niche and confuse the NEX target audience - the 99% of non-techies out there.

Err. Cheaper than my cron 35 asph? Should b about there. Gonna see who will produce d mirror less FF body then. Worst case. Go for d new M body.

But just producing a ff compact like rx1 for street photography n nothing else is kinda restricting d usage of this ff sensor on ultra wide n telephoto lenses. Doesn't make sense. Sony should work on d fx lenses. Instead.

I think we shouldn't need not compare RX1 to anything else. It's unique.

RX1 is not meant to compete against DSLR with 35 mm lens, just like Fuji X100 isn't trying to compete with any APS-C camera with 23mm lens... It's just a niche class that Sony and Fuji are trying to establish here. Because some of the pros and cons are simply that - intangible and debatable, whoever likes it overall, buy lor... Don't like don't buy.

One can always argue that NEX with FF sensor will trounce the RX1 because the size is equivalent and you can get a lens and all that... But like it or not there are benefits with having a sealed body - less trouble with dust, possibly better optimization for the particular sensor (if Sony does it right at least - arguably creating 10 different lenses for the same sensor and pairing one single lens with one single sensor, the latter should yield a better output from the engineering POV assuming the appropriate refining is done). And people would like that. If NEX with FF sensor will trounce RX1, how has Fuji X100 sold so well despite all the M4/3 and NEX cameras out there?

Whatever the case, I think it's a good thing that camera manufacturers are trying out or at least reviving creative combinations. I recall the ol' Sony R1 hahaha... I was looking at it when I first started out and got a H5 instead. Seems so long ago. :bsmilie:

You nailed it right on the head !!! ...I just don't understand how some so called experts/professionals who hasn't even handled the device let alone use it for any period of time can qualify to condemn or praise it based solely on it's paper specifications.
To me, those are just "cheap talk" ...I value the comments and reviews of those who after testing out the product for a certain length of time, wrote to share their findings.

There is nothing else to do but gossip about a new product between the time it's announced and it's available in the shops! I think it's fine to talk about the pros and cons based on the paper specs, but agree it's a bit grating when some people go on and on about how a product's specs did not meet their 'dream' requirements, too expensive etc and then slam the product...don't like then don't buy lor!

That's usually the only reason why they slam the product. If they could afford it they would quietly buy one and maybe even leave the house long enough to shoot pictures of something other than food or gundam models.

It's handsome look =) but really... if the ISO is there, actually the POP up flash is not really needed

Uhm. Flash has it's own use and purposes that high ISO cannot meet. People who believe salesmen telling them "super high ISO, no need flash!" Are usually the ones lacking the most in knowledge and skill.

so... will you buy the RX1?

mmmm so tempting especially after seeing Steve Huff's review :bsmilie:

The EVF is US$650? :D

So d RX1 wif d sonnar 35/2 performs better than d new M240 wif cron 35 ASPH? Sad man. Haha

I know that this is quite controversial but if you look at a chart, the Leica lenses aren't really that sharp in the corners wide open. To my knowledge only imaging resources has published such a chart in their M9 review. I was shocked given Leica lens reputation. Also lensrentals has done some imatests. Unless you want the Leica look, the Zeiss are no better or worse IMHO
