Sony NEX announced ...

beats my 500D video hands down still though

if they can included the panasonic G2 video capabilites (but not their 720p only) and touch screen focusing technology this will be wonderful.

Oh, that just me i guess...So NEX actually is one of the surprise which SOny gave but this is just a beginning....The start of the new era....:bsmilie:

It is just going to be getting more and more exciting seeing Sony coming up with these recently, which many has previously doubted their commitment in this industry.

Sony is going to give everyone a good run for their money

Anyway saw the Nex on Digital Life yesterday. Cant believe they gave such a simple and small write up on it .......

Why Carl Ziess Collaborate with Sony? WHy not C/N? And Why Sony bought over Konica Minolta? Are they having some future big projects to make digital imaging soo perfectly invented by human? :bsmilie: Its the only Company with many history of Lenses and SLR but nvr heard much on C/N. So thats why i choose Sony....:D

oh then Panasonic must be more cutting edge than Sony because of Panasonic/Leica collaboration kekekeke :bsmilie:

Yup, and when you consider that Minolta designed and built lenses for Leica (the Beercan is the 70-210 Leitz) then you realize they're all cousins... Incest, OMG!!

That's because they couldn't get their hands on a copy of the camera... other than regurgitating the specs, what else do you expect them to do?

Hi, NEX7 will be in Sep/Oct with a new APS-C sensor to improve video to 1090p.

I think you mean 1080p right? Not sure about your info but let's concentrate on the NEX3 & 5 first and not some vaporware...

Same here, 16mm is kinda weird.

Doesn't that defeat the whole point of having a small mirrorless camera? :)

Dude, the NEX uses an APS-C sized sensor, so that means you et 1.5x focal length factor... 16mm pancake lens will give a 24mm field of view...

I would think that with NEX, Sony is going to revamp all their camera/videocam business.

With NEX, they have created a new line of lenses which should be small and handy and for people that does not REALLY mind the compromise of optical quality since the target users are consumers who normally need 1 or 2 lenses only.

As for those who need the optimum quality, then DSLR (A-mount lenses) is the only way. Also, I think Sony will include SAM/SSM in their next upcoming lenses or make new versions of existing lineup with SAM/SSM or maybe OSS so that they can be used on NEX as well.

Probably Sony will keep both OSS and SSS since their Cybershots also uses OSS. Just like now Sigma also build lenses with OS/HSM for Sony mount too. So you can see that this should be the way going forward for Sony if they want to have both NEX and Alpha system to be compatible with each other.

Just that with Alpha, you can have Stabiliser even with a prime lens, which is a clear advantage over some competitors. Although OSS and SSS can't work at the same time.

Also, Sony will be launching Videocams with APS-C size sensors which will again create a upstage in Videocam arena.

It is just going to be getting more and more exciting seeing Sony coming up with these recently, which many has previously doubted their commitment in this industry.

There is no SSS because of the extremely small form factor and the very short flange distance... besides for video optical stabilisation is more effective... so don't expect to see both being implemented for the NEX...

Exactly, that's freaking wide for normal usage.

It's not freaking wide and it's quite useful actually... you can always step closer if you want to... whenever I use a normal PnS with a 35 or 38mm lens I always wish it was wider at 28 or 24 mm...

Cheong ah!

While the NEX5 body is so compact and even smaller than the m43 cameras, it's a real pity the 18-55mm kit lens is so much bigger than the olympus kit lens. Why can't Sony make a similar sized lens? Sigh.

Also, Sony should have gone all the way and use the 360 LCD swivel rather than the half baked tilt LCD. What a pity. Sigh again.

here a comparsion of the zoom kits from both camp
