Generally, PDAF is better for fast moving object focusing... if not y would Sony be incorporating PDAF sensor in the new NEX bodies... coz they know comparing to some mirror less in terms of AF speed, still much lacking.

Only if they do it well. Just look at the EOS M or EOS 650. Maybe it's just for marketing...

for all those who haven't read the new Canon Watch news :bsmilie:

Canon EOS 650D/Rebel T4i In-Depth Review: Digital Photography Review

for me, the AF Speed isn't a worry for me on my NEX-7 since i'm on Manual Focus most of the time.

I guess you saw the light ! ;) ...even the fastest AF in the world is useless if it focuses on the wrong thing !

eg: ...your eyes are watching F1 and Lewis is tearing round the hairpin bend and he spins out crashing into the wall ...but, but ...you missed it because your eyes momentary focused on the cute chic in short skirt standing at the front row ! :bsmilie:

nope... the article just says that the EOS-M's and 650D's so-called AF speed with the on-sensor Phase Detect system is still slower than most cameras' CDAF :bsmilie:

As I'm already sold on the mirrorless concept, my main hope for the NEX-6 is that the sensor will have the micro-lenses (or whatever technology is required) to enable better corner sharpness and firmware that can ameliorate peripheral color casting when using wide lenses. That would make it a great backup for the NEX-7 until the hybrid-mount FF NEX comes along.

As for PDAF . . . wasted on me. Using MF with peaking on top of EVF magnification (especially with high-contrast glass) makes AF seem like hit-and-miss.

I was actually refering to your last sentance below.

I'm with you bro, after going back to shooting with MF oldies but goodies, one can't help but feel that even with the best AF it's pretty much a luck and chance affair.

Sony NEX-6 Hands-on Preview: Digital Photography Review

Kudos to Sony again, for pushing out something they acknowledge will probably eat into their NEX-7 sales. But for enthusiasts like us, this is simply wonderful !

Actually it will boost sales of NEX in general... There were a lot who WANTED the NEX-7 body/controls but did NOT want the 24MP sensor.

No touch screen? I'm out. :P

I believe the new Flagship of NEX-FF(2013) will be even awesome~~ but i got a question... is it the 16-50mm OSS come together as a Kit? for Nex-6?

Yes, if you buy it as a kit. I'm sure they will seel the body only as well, outside of Singapore at least.

So how many of the Nex-7 users is going to downgrade to be Nex-6 users?

We can't say that a downgrade version of NEX-7. How can i say? NEX-6 got a better Sensor compare with NEX-7, except for lower resolution and the FPS. Support Apps and WiFi enabled. It's something that new to us. So for me NEX-6 is a prototype of something greater coming next year =) and my conclusion will be.. i won't change my NEX-7 to NEX-6

Reason:
-I just bought my NEX-7(1month old)~, i try to get adapt to it.
-I didn't find the usefulness of the WiFi and Apps so far~
-Contrast-phase AF Detection is great but i use MF instead of AF.
-I prefer tri-navi =)

but.. i hate the hot soe.. but never mind... i don't use that yet.. so wait for NEX-FF

If the NEX 6 doesnt give the purple fringing issue wif the wide angle lenses... Worth considering... But the tri navi system is great...

I was one of those who wanted a NEX 7 with 16mp sensor. But now there is the RX1 which will be a great companion to the RX100 for almost everything I need in photography. Thank you Sony for giving me more headaches.

i might.

1) apps - Time lapse and possible 3rd party mobile apps to control the camera. currently limited time lapse trigger in the market and one of the better one cost $149 USD http://www.timelapseplus.com/
2) better AF . nice to have as i take pic of my kids alot
3) wifi - can make use of those MIFI device/tethering when outside.

but dont think will downgrade once the nex-6 release. will see how it perform (apps and AF)

For me, i just want a firmware with that allow me to save 3 custom setting and 1 option to default the setting(eg,white balance, iso and other stuff).

Personally, I had to agree with you. NEx-6 is just the start to bigger things.

any idea on the availability in singapore?

Reckon not many Nex-7 users will 'downgrade' to the Nex-6. But for a new purchase, probably the 6 will be a better option
