Anyone encountered this problem yet?

NEX-6 lens blackout/reset bug: Sony NEX Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

Just realized that this was the reason why sometimes the lens seems to go bonkers, zooming in/out, trying to focus without success, and occasionally hanging the camera, requiring the batt to be removed and replaced back to recover.

It is easily reproducible by twisting the lens near the mount point, looks like the electrical contacts are quite flimsy and when this happens it shows F-- aperture.

I've encounter this with my Sigma 30mm. Sony 50mm F1.8 not too sure, but I think once as well.

what I will do is to, release the lens & relock back. Guess it's due to the contact points.

it's a bit annoying especially when u try to take a shot, but cannot becos it cannot focus...

I did try that but it didn't help for my case. The camera still detected the error. Gonna head down to Sony and report to them. Will also let them know it's not an isolated case. Let's see what's their response

Just bought my NEX6 2 weeks ago, but I am very excited to see how the new NEX going to kill NEX6

Yes, that's right. It is needed if you use the lenses affected. Certainly 50mm AF is better after the update

Just an update. Sent in my camera to Sony wisma. Showed the scenario to the technician and he could not rectify on the spot, even after cleaning the contacts. Now can only pray that they can come up with an innovative solution to solve this issue permanently

Yikes, that's bad... did you leave your camera and lens with them?

Btw, the problem is not reproducible on the other NEX6 which you are selling?

Yup. Sent both in since both are under warranty.

Did not test yet. Can try it later

Just got my Nex 6 last night. Tried to go to the Sony Download website but after registering and logging in i was immediately logged out with an error message that says Sony doesn't support the country I am in. Is this normal? Can we get around it by registering as from another country like US? Grateful for any advise.
