Sony NEX-6 (The "mini NEX-7" about to be announced soon) Thread II

No, we had 2 clients who came back saying that they use halfway (outdoors, nothing plugged in) but the screen just shows "insert USB". Something like computer blue screen of death. We had to exchange new sets for them, but just wondering if this is a common issue or not. 2 separate cases is possibly a cause for concern.

Oh dear. I've not encountered this so far and I hope I never will. Thanks for the heads up.

Anyone using wriststraps for their NEX-6/7? I been using my Ricoh GRD handstrap on my NEX-5 and its really light and compact but its slightly too thin for the NEX-6.

something like this?

That would definitely be a nice feature, firmware to change top and rear function. As for exposure compensation, it's just one additional step of pressing the rear dial's down arrow before using the top dial. I never use exposure compensation though, so it's not a problem for me. Given the luxury of live view, I find it faster to just move the view around until i can see an exposure i want, and lock it with AEL button (in A mode)

The NEx-6 drains battery really fast, one must get a spare battery when buying. I set the function "Finder/LCD Setting" to viewfinder only to save battery. This will be awkward for many, but I hardly review shots anyway, unless there is time. I hope they will have a firmware too to add this function under the Fn button, faster than going through the Setting menu. Furthermore, the Quick Navi menu (Sony NEX-6 Hands-on Preview: Digital Photography Review) is not shown on the Viewfinder, just the LCD screen, so I have to sacrifice this nice feature.

@clubgrit thank you very much for confirming it can't be change.

I hope sony comes out with a firmware to able to change the top dial and rear dial's function. This would make the NEX 6 even more user friendly for manual shooters or AV/TV shooter who set exposure compensation. This is one of the cons I found in owning the NEX 6.

I use an old Luigi wrist strap I had lying around (http://www.leicatime.com/a000-STRAPS-page.htm)

There are so many type in the market now though ...

Sony said could be isolated sets problem or batch problem. Just post here if anyone encounters same issue!

That gives better stability, should add 0.5 or 1 f-stop, IMHO, good reason even if it looks "weird" to some (not to me). I prefer the one made by Matin => Matin Camera Grip - 20 with Self-Standing Stand! (Black, Genuine Leather, Made in Korea!) ShaShinKi.com ~ Malaysia's First & Largest Online Camera Shop!

I change the plate to the smallest Arca-Swiss type I can find (since I use an Arca Swiss ballhead), so far it's the one for the Canon 7D by Markins (Markins.com). A smaller plate makes it more balanced to the eye.

But the NEX is thin at the base, so it still looks a bit awkward. Adding a half-case like those from Gariz makes it wider at the base, then the plate won't look too awkward. Gariz case for Nex-6 still unavailable, so I use the one for NEX-7 I had lying around. Not a perfect fit (i.e. battery door won't open fully), but ok for the time being.

I was thinking if I should get those hand grips for DSLRs. Don't know if it would look weird on a smaller NEX or not.

I am thinking of getting either a Markins P20 or P26U for the Nex-6... currently i am just using my Nikon D700 plates (way too big for the Nex) with the Nex-6...

Those do not have the handstrap hole like the one in the P7D

I'm currently using this. Need to attach to the tripod mount though.

I am also using this. Not bad for something "free" (part of the accessories from carryspeed CS-Pro strap)

anyone having problem with NEX-6 with 16-50 lens where it will automatic focus when you do not press shutter button, and when you are in menu it will autofocus and ends the menu! I am not sure it is the 16-50 problem

I just gotten a NEX-6 for myself today.
I opted for the Memory stick, issit better if i have opt for the 94mb/s sdhc?

1 thing i really don't like abt is the charging method. Any place i can buy the charger for the battery?
Btw, how can i transfer the pictures into my desktop via wi-fi?

Charger available cheaply on ebay.

What i faced now is that once i connect the camera to my computer thru the USB cable, after i'm done.. i unplug, off and on the camera.. the camera doesn't start.
I have to disconnect battery, connect battery, on.. then it starts.

I have some observation on the NEX 6 kit lens the 16-50mm

Turning the OSS off. using burst shot. I have more sharper shots than using the OSS I tested

series of 3 shots with oss off and oss on.

OSS off turned out to be much sharper.
While OSS on I got some blurred shots weird... Has anyone observed this also?

settings was 50mm at 1/50s iso 400

I notice the OSS is not that effective as sony claims. Or did I get a bad batch of lens?

Hi Ageha really? they exhibit the same symptoms? I still can't narrow down the problem but I definitely noticed something weird about this lens.

"We see only marginally different results with IS active versus disabled. Yet, to the extent that we do find differences, leaving IS on actually produces slightly more blur at these shutter speeds."
