I am sure many are interested to know why I decided to sell off the A77 so quickly.
The main burning question: Is there some serious problems with A77?
If you are affected by why I sell so quickly, I hope you can start to ask yourself again the reason why you want to buy/upgrade.
Not very good with words. Below is a summary of how I feel. If ever got the chance the join any of the meetup, I wont mind showing the pics to illustrate what I meant.
Shutter: That is simply fantastic as compared to A33/Nex3.
Grip: Fantastic. Much better than the A33/A55. Unless you have very small hands, if not, it will feel better. And because of the better grip, you will not feel the weight of the A77 with the 1650 kit lens.
EVF: Fantastic. I am a liveview shooter. I like to see more or less the final picture before its taken. Adjusting white balance and exposure. The higher res also meant that its easier for fine tuning the focus if needed.
Focusing: the focus is fast. And the micro AF adjustment is fantastic. Can adjust the AF to be so precise. No longer need to worry about front/back focusing.
Adjustments: White balance- allows me to adjust much more than in A33. I always miss this (which is on GF1) when using the Nex3/A33. The lower/upper limit in auto iso is also a plus. More control during video recording! And many more good stuffs like what other bros have posted.
What I dont like:
-the ooc jpegs. Firmware2.0 might fix, but it might not fix too. I do pp, but I will only pp to save precious shots such as iso12800 shots. I will stop short to pp a camera's "careless" flaw.
-the severe under-exposure despite choosing the center-weighted option. I can understand and appreciate the more conservative metering. It will allows more details to be captured instead of bright areas being blown out. However, my shots are more than 50% indoors. So, this actually work against me. I cannot be always adjusting exposure compensation. I dont mind the white wall behind my son being over exposed.
- the high iso is actually not a big problem. Its only when you pixel peep that you feel that its noisy. When you view the picture on a pc monitor, you wont really see the noise. It is also not a problem if there is enough light. This is what some bros have mentioned, studio iso test is going to be different from real life situation. Again, in my situtation, i am usually taking pics of my son in the living room. he doesnt alway look up and let the light from the ceiling light fall on his face. So when his head is slightly tilted downwards, the light will not fall on his face directly. This is where even at iso800, the noise level can be bad and details such as the eye lashes are lost, even LR3 cant save it. I cant be placing reflectors all over when i want to shoot, or buy more lamps, or renovate my flat. I am just a simple dad trying to take impromptu pictures of his son doing cheeky things, playing lego, painting, drawing, etc.
So, in my situation, with the "bad" points combined, the pictures are not turning out nice. I am upgrading, but yet, the pics are not much better. So, I decided to sell off the A77. No doubt, the A77 will shine if I take it on an overseas trip. There are so many positives about the A77. So, I wont rule out that I might re-purchase an A77 in future. Seriously, at S$1.5k+ for body only, its the best value-for-money.
The above is my own feel and view. You do not have to agree with me. Its just like I hate onions, parsley, and celery. No matter how nice is the dish, once you dump that in, I will never find that dish nice.
