Sony DSC-RX100

Yup. Was a bit lost trying to decide on which one. Lol. Ended up with the black lizard emboss. Been week still not arrive yet. Any idea if he uses registered mail or normal? Asked for tracking # but no reply.

Can you remove it again without residue?

No idea. Still in the post but i use his stuff for old cam ... nothing some Goo Gone cant remove.

i called up harvey norman and the price was $999, not $899 which some of you gotten :(

by the way, is there a need for this camera to be stored in a dry cabinet?

Nope. Its not a need. Its not a need for any other camera as well.
Its just Recommended to keep all cameras in a dry cabinet at a suitable RH %

Why do I get the feeling we are being ripped off here in Singapore?

you can buy the rx100 from kogan in Australia for 579.00 Australian dollars or 731.4217 Singapore dollars???

And I was happy to pay S$850 in Thailand, incl 16GB card and VAT refund. No warranty, but I'm willing to take the risk on this one: never had to take a compact in for servicing, and I seem to have got a good copy.

I did a unscientific comparison here of the RX100 clear image zoom (to the max) vs the NEX 7 with E18-200mm and optical zoom to same scale (125mm). The RX100 stands up very well until you pixel peep. Incredible power of resolution in such a small camera...

it's hard to tell unless you produce 100% crops of the image to have a proper comparison

I also found the resolution really good with RX100... Maybe it is the lens that is tuned for the sensor.

Also started with half believed in how good can such a small camera be... Caught me in surprise!

If it is not so seriously over-priced, would have bought a set too!

Yep, that's what I did. First, uncropped versions to show what the images will be life in real-life use (web presentation, printing, etc.). Later in the thread, I showed 100% crops of the two shots (the posting titled 'clue'). As I said, it's only when you get that close that you see differences between the optical zoom on the NEX7 and the max'd CIZ on the RX100... and the differences are not huge.

perhaps due to the resolution. but i'm more interested in High ISO capabilities as i seldom shoot with flash.

but for landscapes, this is a beast

Yes, that's a different question, and not one I was trying to answer :)

NEX 7 with yr CV 35-1.2 ASPH 2 already so heavy ya. Add a flash on it? Omg. Haha

Good to know that RX100 is gradually dropping in price.... yes, I think $999 is over-priced. The current market price has dropped to around $900-$920. If it falls a bit more, will probably buy one and use as a compact travelling camera that can be permanently placed in my briefcase.
