Sony DSC-RX100

Not sure leh... according to Ken Rockwell:

"Pop Photo magazine just tested the RX100 (page 80, Sept 2012 issue), and high ISO performance is horrible, with only an ISO 400 maximum acceptable speed. Forget it if you were mislead into thinking the RX100 has a DSLR sensor, it's just a little sensor with a big marketing campaign behind it.

and...

"Sony is all about audio;"

Come on... Ken Rockwell is an idiot who doesn't know the difference. he can't tell the difference between Nikon's 1" CX Format and the RX100 sensor. what makes you think he'll know what sensor goes into the RX100?

also, he did make a fool of himself calling Sony a liar by misleading consumers into thinking that 1" refers to the length. it actually refers to the diagonal length. and in the end, totally forgot that his beloved J1 and V1 are using the same sensor.

:bsmilie:

haha, so not only did Ken Rockwell NOT test it, he is quoting from a magazine.

thats like me saying.... "I read a review on Life that The Dark Knight is a horrible movie and production value is horrible with only CatWoman making a few scenes. Forget it if you were misled into thinking you were gonna get a whole lot of Anne Hattaway goodness. It's just a movie with a few scenes of her in it just that they are marketing it with her sexy tastiness. '

and...

"Christopher Nolan is all about inception."

I shoot Nikon but Rockwell isn't the brightest of bulbs.

Hmm when I hear sony, TV, Playstation and cellphone comes to mind. The last time I bought Sony for its audio was a Discman maybe 10 yrs ago.

The sony audio stuff is pretty decent. Especially the mp3 players and the high-end headphones

Yeah, if only they can give 2 years warranty as many other major headphone manufacturers do ... Sony's 90 days warranty is just pathetic.

with everyone praising the RX100, Pop Photo Mag's like, one of the few who think that the RX100 doesn't make the cut :dunno:

Other than d need to menu dive. It's an awesome little pocket rocket.

Everyone has their own "Like" brand. Dont compare apple to orange. If u have a bad flu, will u eat a lot of apple? Depend what type of shooting u are in. Panny LX7 can produce better B&W. So can i said the rest are rubbish? By the way, i own a NEX 7 with CV35 f/1.2 & 24 f1.8z.

For pouch with velcro closing, I would recommend the Kata DF406.

Pouch with zipper closing, Think Tank Little Stuff It!.

I bought a CAM-IN Black Shoulder Strap 1851 at $14 from TKPhoto, quite a good and cheap strap for the Sony RX100.

Welcome to T K FOTO - Cam-in Camera Straps Pricelist

Beg to differ with you Bro ! ;) ...but 2012 audio stuff belongs entirely to JVC and their Carbon Nanotube Technology !!! ...from their low end FX40 IEMs to their mid range portable cans HA-S500 ....and ....I'm waiting their release of their high end stuff.

This is probably OT , but I tested their XBA earphones. Must really say the XBA3, 4 armature series sound are fantastic. Their prices are even more fantastic (2 XBA-4 can buy a RX100). I settled for a Klipsch 4, which offers great sound at a much affordable price.

On RX100, there are varied expectations. Some see it as a p&S , therefore the RX100 is great. Some sees the price tag as a DSLR, and hence expect it to function and better the G1X etc. Thats life in general.

my bad!!!!! LOL didnt check on previous post.

Repost!

but it's super weird :dunno:

the Olympus XZ-1 scored lower than the G1X and RX100, and just 1% more than the LX5.... and yet has a Gold Award.

it's really interesting how they score the cameras :bsmilie:

OT but... remember that the perception of Audio Quality differs from person to person. so don't expect to compare earphones/headphones without understanding how each produces and drives the sound ;)

Last night while playing camera in the dark, i found out something. Why given bulb mode when no port for remote? How you expect user to press n hold bulb mode in such? Really one BIG mistake!

Use a clip or something heavy? Better give and not use vs not give and need it.

planning on getting my RX100 tmr. just a question about a line i saw on the online manual...need PlayMemories software to import the ACVHD files to a computer? bit concerned coz i have a macbook and this software isnt available for mac. i usually use lightroom to import all files from my sd card - i dont have much knowledge about video/video files, but sure ACVHD files are still video files and lightroom can import them to a location on my HDD?

i also notice then that the RX100 can record in ACVHD format and mp4...is there a major difference in quality? sorry if this is a stupid question, but since im asking about video here, i thought i'd ask this too :D thanks

You don't need the software. The camera will mount and you can just use finder to get the stuff that you want. Or, you can use image capture on the mac to grab your stuff.

I reckon AVCHD yields better quality but that might be a placebo effect for me. The real reason why you would choose one over the other is that MP4 only allows two different resolutions of which one is VGA (useless). Pick AVCHD and you'll have multiple resolution options to choose from.

you need the PlayMemories software to playback AVCHD files if you don't have the correct codecs available on your Mac.
