So far, SONY is the first company that bring the entry level DSLR (with high SPEC) to a new low price range with A100 release..
I hope they will do the same with the next 2 camera launch ;)
They make the sensor.. always have the pricing advantage.

But the Sony lens prices are putting people off.

No image stabiliser Sony lenses (since AS in the Sony DSLR body already) are more expensive than the high grade IS Canon and VR Nikon lenses of similar focal lengths.

I'm still waiting for third parties like Sigma to provide more A-mount lenses for Sony DSLRs.

In addition, Sony is notorious for making many of their accessories and products proprietary ........ meaning must buy original Sony for it to work (or work well) with the main product.

you cant use canon lenses on sony bodies.
you can't use nikon batteries on sony bodies.
you can't use pentax flashes on sony bodies.
you can't use olympus vertical grips for sony bodies.
you can't use canon software on sony bodies.

dang, sony sure is proprietary huh?

Basically, you don't understand what I just said. :sweatsm::lovegrin:

Think harder. I can't spoon-feed everyone.

you dun explain well enough. what you mean by proprietary in photographic terms? different lens mounts? different batteries? different flash sockets?

and just for your info, sigma have lenses with minolta mounts.

paiseh, i must slam u liao... :bsmilie:

actually not that i hate it... but i dislike the minolta mount cos alot of fancy stuff like the pop up flash diffuser cannot use... then the bubble gauge need to use the FS-1200 then can use... etc...

unless sony can get 1/3 of the market share then most manufacturers will make stock for tis kinda mount... so if cannot... y not go back to normal mount?

Like what they had for the V-Series? ;)

By the way, there are Minolta to ISO flash adapters available.

As for the reasons... I think there are 2:

1. The Minolta Mount is actually quite advanced

2. Backwards compatibility with old Minolta items.

Can you imagine all the people going: "Oh no, Sony must die die die, why not make flash mount compatible with my old minolta? Why must go buy new flash mah? Die sony!!!"

In this case, it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. The real question to ask is why Minolta came up with their own flash mount anyway?
