Dear owners of the A7ii, may I ask for your feedback on this very interesting camera?
I have a EOS 5D2 and a NEX 5N. I travel with the 5N as it is far smaller and lighter for trips. I mainly use the SEL 18-200 on it. It is also a very fun camera to use mediocre AF notwithstanding.
The 5D2 these days is only used for important shoots (event cover for church mainly). I recently covered an event where even the 5D2 was struggling with high ISO. At ISO6400 it became blotchy and noisy. 3200 was a bit better but the difference between my camera and 5D3 shots was significant (some of my colleagues were forced to shoot their 5D3s at ISO 12800).
The NEX 5N was really very noisy at IS3200 even with tricks like hand held twilight mode. It also didn't AF very well causing some grab shots to be out of focus. But it could do shots like this on the fly-

So I am looking at upgrading. It will need to be something that can handle high ISO well enough to do indoor dim light events. I cannot justify the very expensive 5D3 when I only use it for events and my main camera is a 5N. The A7ii seems like it might be a good compromise with small size, MF with my EF lenses (got the adaptor for my NEX already). Maybe can even consider traveling with the A7ii+ kit lens+ SEL 18-200 (for longer reach). A friend who has the A7s says he doesn't use it for event cover as it doesn't focus well enough. A bit worried that A7ii will be inferior to a EOS 6D at low light and worse at AF to boot.
So can the A7ii AF well (read: adequately lock on to moving subjects) in low light (eg concerts)? Will the image hold up well between 6400-12800? If it can, it will replace my NEX 5N and I'll use it alongside the 5D2 until I have an more complete system (flash, native long lens, UWA eg)....
The alternative is to get the EOS 6D and sell off the 5D2. But I know I won't want to travel with it...
I must say Steve Huff's pix do reassure me of the high ISO performance quite a bit...

actually the rrp has dropped quite a bit nowI agree it is worth checking out. Someone just told the the older A7 can be had for RM$3600 in JB now...incredible value! And yes, I think lots of people are dreaming of an A7S/ A7ii hybrid.
