Sony A7 II

Did you buy the 50 makro planar from me?

The AF of the A7 is not fast enough for kids for many situations. You could anticipate, but it will definitely mean missed opportunities. The AF of the A7II is not significantly faster, but there will be also be the A9 next year with even faster AF. I would suggest that you go try out the AF speed of the A7II in the shops with your kids around to get a gauge as fast can be subjective in photography and forums such as this. As a former Pentax user still waiting for the Pentax full frame DSLR, I would suggest that you start your downgrading first as you probably know how Pentax buyers can be.

Yup, the Makro Planar is from you.

Made a recent travel to a winter country with A7. It is totally inoperable under cold conditions. I wonder if the A7II will be better in the heat insulation part. The metal casing of the A7 does make the camera very cold. Quite disappointed as my other brand camera still shooting away despite also being out of spec.

I have 1 question about the IBIS and relating to steadyshot setting.

When attached with legacy lens, the steadyshot will be "OFF" and then we supposed to choose the correct focal length in the steadyshot setting.

Maybe my understanding is wrong here, how is setting the focal length going to affect the stability? I would assume the IBIS would be ramped up when a long focal length is chosen. Or am I making a wrong assumption?

how cold was it? i've had endured almost zero degrees celsius temperatures shooting, and my friends have done up to -20 degrees celsius. maybe you got a lemon?

I'm in Tokyo for past 7days and the a7ii battery drop fast. No issue when in Sg.

but still operable unlike bro MWP's issue that it can't even be used.

yeah. the battery drains fast in the cold. wish the A7 series could take the NP-FM500H batteries. however in Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan in very cold conditions i was still able to get around 250-300 shots per battery. perhaps it was the use of manual focusing

Yup, I stayed in Tokyo and Hokkaido for 3 months, no issues with the battery at all, 250-300 shots.

Your understanding is current. Not only focal length affects the stability, for full 5-axis stabilization, even the focus distance affects stability (mainly X-Y). That's the reason why legacy lenses with no electronic communication can only utilize 3-axis stabilization. (for Minolta AF lenses, only those with ADI can make use of full 5-axis stabilization)

It is near zero and I have the gariz half case on. No issue whatsoever when in Singapore. Over there, the camera just stop responding before shutting off completely.

Same with me, with the Gariz case. No problems in Japan when i go back there.

Maybe you'd wanna check in your camera with the service center to see if there's any issue with it?

Do notice battery tend to drain faster in cold weather countries even with gariz case but overall still ok. Newer batts still can get about 200 shots. Older batts due to frequent recharging the capictance has dropped. Always carry extra batts and start recharging them at end of each day

Guys... any idea is there any promotion for this body? thanks..

Never had issues with all my e mount systems even in heavy snowfall. I just cover the camera in my down jacket while slinged on my neck strap n zip it up the jacket when not in use. Battery life more or less the same (Nex 5n,6,7.a7r )etc. during winter or low temperatures lithium
Ion batteries performance are sure to experience deteoriation but 200+ shots should be achievable . I would get the body checked out if i were u.

Guys, I have a question on the A7II steadyshot setting - I am using legacy manual lens (CV 35mm/F1.4 with kiwi adapter and assortment of Nikon and Minolta lens) with NO electronic contacts between lens/adapter and camera mount. However, when I try to switch the SteadyShot to Manual, the option "SteadyShot Adjust" is greyed out. When I select it, it said "!Lens - Invalid because lens not attached. Attach the lens correctly."

I can choose the focal length though.

When I attached the FE35mm/f2.8, everything is selectable.

My settings;
1) "SteadyShot" as "On"
2) "SteadyShot Settings" - A) "SteadyShot Adjust" greyed out. B) SteadyS. Focal Len - can be selected.

SteadyShot (IBIS) seems to work fine but what puzzled me is about the warning about invalid lens. And yes, I had set "Release w/o Lens" to Enable but still lens warning.

This seems to be a software. Below is what I got from a Chinese forum. Sorry I have no time to translate it:

Thanks, doverblk31...I could barely understand but I guess the method involves swapping OSS with legacy lens to kickstart the IBIS. Well, my Steadyshot is OK, just that my camera does not know that a lens is attached.

Anyway, no issue, I will go down to 313 Somerset later to try with their set and my lens to see if I have the same issue.

its a bug. got to wait for Sony to release firmware update

Damn this is a very poison thread got my first FF.

Did google translation below hope this help

" If your camera axis image stabilization fails, do not worry when you buy the machine may be using the lens for Sony lens with image stabilization OSS as a test , then after replacing the third-party lens , five-axis image stabilization failure solve there are two ways :
1, to find without OSS Sony lens. As 55 f1.8,16 f2.8 or four generations then A -mount lens adapter ring , boot, and then shut down. Then put up a manual head , image stabilization is activated .
2 , if there is no non- OSS under Sony lens , use the 28-70 kit lens, turned to open steady shot selection , settings where players move , as the focal length , you just set up a line. Then forcibly remove the lens , this also activates image

Hey all

New to the Sony family and just got my Sony A7ii yesterday.

Just wondering where is the best place to buy the Metabones Canon EF Mark IV?

Thanks all in advance!
