Sony A33

manual says leave battery in charger for 1 hour after light goes off for Full charge

Agree, I believe the chargers are somewhat similar to those used for serious RC models which uses Lithium Polymer for power.

These chargers uses a CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) algorithm to achieve full charge of the batteries, they'll charge at a constant current till the battery reaches about 95% of it's capacity(light goes off) before switching to constant voltage mode for topping up the battery.
The really good ones would have a balancer function to ensure the individual cells inside have equal voltage.

Hi, I am considering the A33 as my first camera.

I was wondering if an adapter is needed for to mount 3rd party lenses like Sigma?
I am not sure if cross-posting is allowed, but if any seniors is willing to help me on questions I have on the A33/Sony system here:

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6656548#post6656548 (in Newbies Corner), please head there!

I can't change my thread title to lure A33 users in :p

read ur other thread.

Sigma and Tamron makes lenses for Sony too, there is not adaptor required. Infact, Sony owns part of Tamron... Not forgetting, Sony alpha is the only system that can use CARL ZEISS autofocus lenses :D

As for Sony having limited lenses, I guess u didnt know that Minolta = Sony, and that all Sony Alphas, be it DSLR or DSLT, can use all minolta AF lenses, and that is a large number out there. Infact if u wanna compare, Sony Alphas has more autofocus lenses than Nikon D3100 (which u mentioned in ur other thread). This is because D3100 do not have drive motor in their body, they cannot use alot of AF lenses.

BTW DSLT is just a term to represent the translucent mirror in the A33/55, instead of a movable mirror in normal DSLRs. The lenses that the DSLR and DSLT uses are the same.

Like to ask bros here, I gt my A33 a mth back but havnt gt time bring out shoot more den twice. I realised the original batt tt comes along w e cam drains up quite fast.. dunno if its cos I change my settings and preview my photos on cam frequent for sharpness. Any of u bros having tis prob?

Hi,

I'm a new A33 novice dslr user as well. Been playing with my cam for 1 mth. And Yes, the original batt drains out quite fast if u keep changing settings and preview photos. To overcome this problem, I got myself two 3rd party batt at $24 each to standby for just in case situations.

FYI: surprisingly, the max no. of shots i taken with the original A33 batt is 845 shots in 3.5hrs during a photoshoot, that is acheived without much changing of settings and preview of photos. Just keep shooting till it drain to 0% and shutdown...

Hope this helps.

I got my 3rd party batteries at SLR revolution, Funan.
3rd party batteries although their power ratings are higher but they drain out faster than the ori batt.

Happy shooting with ur A33

Hi Guys ,

A trivial question on the cam, realised that the display button next to the Delete button doesnt flush . The Del button is compressed into the body , while the display button protrudes out like the rest.

Thats normal right ? haha hope i didnt pressed the del too hard .

Cos for my Alpha550, the 2 buttons are aligned

Hi all, i just got my A33 with kit lens few days back & tried taking some shots yesterday.

Would like to know how i can take a people+landscape pic with clear foreground & background.

I searched & read something about hyperfocal but not really sure how i can set it on the A33.

Is it possible to get this type of shots using auto mode or only with the PASM?

Thanks :)

Shoot at smaller apertures, increased depth of field.

Hi,

Any bros can recommend me whether Sigma 18-200 or Tamron 18-200 is better in terms of quality, sharpness, AF etc for my A33?

Thanks.

I also want to buy one, I quite like it brand!

Shortly after the R4 team announced dissolution, the market apart from "R4 Ⅲ", has gradually emerged "R4 ULTRA", "R4 SDHC", “nintendo ds r4” ,“r4 ds”and "HYPRE R4" such as the name of the brand name for itself in cottage cheap r4 card burning.

Try using the 'A' mode (Aperture priorty) and select f11, focus on the people.

'hyperfocal' is a concept, not a feature you can select on the camera ! ...(need I say, google ?) :bsmilie:

If you leave it up to the camera (Auto) you'll have a 20% chances of getting it right.
More easier to use aperture priorty or full manual.

Thanks :)

Hope that helped ! ;)

two things you need to fo so you'll be able to clear foreground and background in which all the bro here had mention shoot with a small aperture and if your kung fu is good could use hyperfocal also specially if your background is really far from your foreground or subject.

here's some reading and if you have free time maybe could calculate the hyperfocal distance of the lenses you have :)

here's the formula for getting the hyperfocal distal for your lens

46a03e9bd0c3e710db829d665b3b4410.png

where

H is hyperfocal distance
f is focal length
N is f-number (f / D for aperture diameter D)
c is the circle of confusion limit

For any practical f-number, the focal length is insignificant in comparison with the first term, so that

58ee94d03accdb2cf4e2ffd49d71cf95.png

The formula was taken from Wiki!!!

Also below is your CoC
For APS-C use this 0.018 mm

so for example (i hope my math kung fu is good) my tamron 17-50

F = 17mm
N = let say using f9
c = 0.018

my Hyperfocal distance would be 1.78meters or 1783mm
So what this means to achieve focus with my foreground/background and subject I need to pre-focus my lens to toughly 1.78meters before I take a shot so it's handly to have your caculator with you

Thanks everyone :D will try it out and see what i can get ;)

With regards to hyperfocal distance, there's no need to stress ur brain calculating it. I always refer to dofmaster.com or if u r using iPhone, iphone.dofmaster.com

Got myself an A33 too, would like to get a tele lens of this model SAL75300 - 75-300mm range. Is it a good buy? Else, what's yr recommendation?

Thanks!!
