Sony A33

It's a good first telephoto I guess - cheap and cheerful but don't expect the world from it. I think good enough for beginners like me till I'm ready to move on to some bigger guns like the 70-300G or the 70-400G.

Btw if you join some of the bird shoots you will will see bros with Bazookas instead of guns... Lol

Got myself an A33 too, would like to get a tele lens of this model SAL75300 - 75-300mm range. Is it a good buy? Else, what's yr recommendation?

Thanks!!

If u have no intention of upgrading to a850 soon, then better to get the SAL55200sam instead. Same price, optically same if not better and sam motor is good for movies with a33.

Got budget, just go straight to sal18250. I can tell u, they all perform quite similar, esp at 200/250mm while 18250 more versatile and easier to use.

Hi everyone!

I've got a question about the kind of information that you can see on the EVF. Is it exactly the same as what you can see on the LCD? I've already tried changing between the different kinds of display by using the DISP button but the most I can see is shutter speed, aperture size, exposure, histogram and the shake lvl. Please kindly advice!!!

the biggest question is...what else do you want to see?

Information like what you can see on the LCD. For example: iso, DR, Dive mode, WB, batt life, etc. I want to know whether the EVF displays information exactly like the LCD or the EVF is supposed to just display some basic info like what I've mentioned in the previous post.

Changing the evf views via the 'disp' button will only switch between the 3 choices.
You can keep your eye glued to the evf, press the function key and change the settings thru the evf, just like the LCD.

I can't imagine having every options showing in the evf ...it'll obstruct and prevent me taking the picture.

Do you really want to squeeze your eyeball and trying to see what the ISO is or what is the Drive mode etc in that small VF?

All these settings can be set in the the first place using the big nice LCD before you shoot.

And when we shoot using the VF, the only thing I want to see is where is the AF points and my subject.

There's quite a big empty space by the sides of the EVF, right? So the view isn't blocked. And wouldn't it be more useful to have those info at a glance? I feel it would be an advantage over OVF. That's just my opinion though.

By the way, what I wanted to know is just whether the info displayed on the EVF is the same as the lcd or not, that's all.

To answer your Question regarding the EVF and LCD yes whay you see in the LCD is also in the EVF excatly the same :) you can also adjust setting via EVF but it's hard as you cant see the butons etc... to me I am using EVF when it's very sunny and bright...

About the empty space beside the EVF do you eman those similar to A700, Nikon D90 and Canon 60D? it has a small LCD panel on the top portion of the camd beside the OVF? I believed those are onyl available to the mid range DSLR for Sony DSLT it maybe be present in A77 (future model)

hey guys !

currently im looking at this cam

called up ms colour.

they offer 999 for the cam with a 18-55

any bro got other better lobang? need it by tomorrow as im going overseas

Hmm... I'm confused... lol
Albertri, does your EVF always display the iso, drive mode, AWB etc setting by the side? Or is it like what Ghostfit had mentioned?

Regarding the empty space, if you look into the EVF, it's the columns where the settings are displayed when you press the function button.

a700 doesn't have the LCD panel on the right...only A850/900.

I think he meant the space INSIDE the EVF... not too sure how much space there is cuz I don't own one, but I suspect they want to keep it simple. Its an entry level camera after all...

Nope it wont display unless you press the Fn button or Disp (up) d-pad

Oh that space... yeah I know what you mean you want to have the same display as those with OVF where you can see the ISO, f, Metering etc... For A33/A55 it will only show you the info when you press the Fn button or DISP as I mentioned above. Well this could be fixed by software update if Sony wants to :)

Hmm... That's odd then. I can't get the the ISO, AWB, AF area, Drive mode, etc to be displayed in the EVF by pressing the DISP button... Only the Fn button works...

By the way, is it normal to have strange noises coming out from the camera when you do a long exposure? (>5secs)

yup same for me the DISP will show you (as far as I remember)

Histogram, level/elevation, some other lcd displays but not the ISO WB etc... it will only be displayed when you press the Fn button :)

ic ic, thanks for confirming! By the way, would it be ok for you to kindly help test out long exposure shots and see if there's any strange noise and vibration coming from the camera??? If yours don't have, I'm bringing mine down to Harvey Norman for a 1~1 exchange

Update: I think i've found out the reason for the strange sound and vibration... It's the image stabiliser at work. I've tested it by switching off the Steady Shot and the sound and vibration was gone. And if anyone out there who don't mind, could you please kindly test it out?
