Sony A33

?? the NEX mount is not necessary a mirror-less system. It is just a new mount with a shorter flange distance.... Are you the sony CEO? Why do you think they cannot put a translucent mirror inside the NEX, or some IR cut filter, some sort of translucent AF sensor in the future??

All the E-mount specify is probably the electrical contacts and flange distance... not what is in the flange distance... duh....

The old DSLR flange distance was set eons ago to accomodate many things like swing mirror, FF sensor, etc.

tecnically they could add in tranlucent mirror to nex but I dont think Sony would do unless needed :) the translucent in DSLT is for the EVF 2nd sensor I dont think NEX would need such anyways :) so having a mirror in NEX is not really a good idea but doable :)

I think rightnow Sony camera line is pretty comprehenssive from PnS, Pro-Consumer, Mirrorless (NEX), small form factor DSLR and DSLT to bigger body and FF :) unless Sony would target new user base like those dont want the size of DSLT maybe Pro-NEX

sony created the NEX as a mirrorless system.

Now why would they wanna add a translucent mirror into a mirrorless system?

It wouldnt be called a mirrorless system if it has a mirror in it.

the NEX is introduced as a mirrorless system.

If one day it has a mirror, i'll eat my words. But i am positively sure it wont hv a mirror.

Unless u hv some edivence that says otherwise, then show me the evidence :bsmilie:

But so far, there is 0% chance of it having mirror.

Prove me wrong if u can LOL

Remember, sony officially terms the NEX a MILC

MIRRORLESS Interchangable Lens Camera.

Hmm the purpose of a mirror in camera is for evf or ovf. There are other means other than using a mirror to implement the view finder. I don't see the need to add a mirror and make the nex bigger.

I see a couple of guys saying that the mirror is for the EVF sensor. I thought for A33 the mirror is only for the AF sensor, not for the EVF. The EVF uses the main sensor for LV like the NEX.

That is why the A33 is so close to NEX. All it did was to add in the mirror to improve AF performance. Everything else is like a NEX.

And the NEX can certainly benefit from improving on it AF performance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-lens_translucent_camera

A Single-Lens Translucent (SLT) camera is a type of DSLR[1] using a beam splitter instead of a solid mirror. The major difference compared to DSLRs is that SLT cameras do not have an optical viewfinder, instead they rely on an electronic viewfinder, using the image collected by the sensor.

A semi-translucent mirror allows the majority of the light to pass through to the sensor while reflecting a portion of the light onto a phase-detection autofocus sensor in the top of the camera, allowing the camera to take photos without any mirror movement (and associated vibrations), as well as full time phase detection auto focus[2].

Users of SLTs must frame their shots using an electronic viewfinder, similar to mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (also called EVIL cameras). However, EVIL cameras don't have mirrors and use contrast-detect autofocus, which is a major difference compared to SLT. Since the autofocus array is constantly receiving light, SLT cameras are able to use phase-detection autofocus during video recording, while DSLR's and other interchangeable lens cameras have to use slower contrast detect autofocus for video and live view.

I agree that the only issue with mirrorless is the cdaf but panasonic can and has implemented the best cdaf at the moment which speed can rival dslrs. Fuji has also implement hybrid af system in their latest f300 which canon is also working on. I believe the future of evils/mirrorless is to have hybrid or pdaf build onto the main sensor.

Having a mirror just negates the advantage of having small and portable size.

Another reason why mirror is not included in Nex is also market segmentation. It will certainly affect their dslr sales and will be difficult to justify the existence of e and a mount system.

I would say probably the upcoming nex7 may have upgraded cdaf or maybe hybrid system and definitely not a mirror. It would be slapping themselves if they include a mirror into a mirrorless system.

NEX will NEVER have a mirror. anyone even vagualy familiar with the term "flange distance" and how that affects lens design will know why Sony has 2 mounts, and why the E to A mount adapter is as "long" as it is.

Anyone using 3rd party battery and hows the battery life?

Most are somewhat better than the original. That being said, sonystyle Tampines says they have a newer battery with higher capacity - but I think they have no clue. :D

I will most likely get the A55 later. Can I check if A55 and A33 uses the same 3rd party batts? And roughly how much does a 3rd party batt costs?

Does the A33/A55 have 2 memory storage slots (i.e 1 for the SDHC and the other for the Sony stick) ?

If yes, can we set to save 1 still picture to BOTH of the memory cards or set 1 to save still pictures and the other to save video only ?

Thanks !

nope it share a single slot for both MS DUO PRO and SD... although it look like two slots but cant place two memoery card together... i tried once but I didn;t force hehehe scared..

Some camera like Olympus E620 has two slot XD and CF but you can use both can only when doing panorama w/c you need to have the xD card as the system uses it... dunno why it was implemented that way. Other system I am not sure if you can use both slots at the same time

This link indicate that it has 2 storage slots. Maybe they are meant to be squeezed together ?

found this from DPreview its a dual purpose card slot... when I peep into the slot it seem MS DUO and SD contacts are being shared

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyslta55/page4.asp

"The A55 uses the same battery as Sony's NEX-series compact mirrorless cameras. Despite a relatively low capacity (for its class) of 7.9Wh, the NP-FW50 is rated for between 330 and 380 images depending on EVF/LCD use.

Storage and battery. The Sony Alpha A55 and A33 offer a single flash memory card slot, but it's compatible with two memory card standards, each with various permutations. The first is Memory Stick PRO Duo / PRO-HG Duo, Sony's own proprietary media format. As an alternative for those who prefer more standardized media, Sony also supports three flavors of Secure Digital cards -- standard SD, SDHC, and SDXC
Just to the rear of the battery compartment is a dual purpose SD/Memory Stick slot."

A33/55 has one slot which can use both sd and ms card.

However most other alphas has a dual slot which fits 2 cards.

Think the a33/55 only has 1 slot to save space.

Hi guys need some pointers on a function of A33.

There is a function that take 3 different shots and combine into 1 image. Do your know how / where can i activate that mode?

I would also like to check on the 18-250mm len. May I check where can I get this len at an reasonable rate and what brand of len can i get?

The A33 i got at the pc show comes with a 18-55mm len. Am I right to say that by getting a 18-250 mm len i can have the capability of the current 18-55mm len plus 55-250mm which allows me to zoom in further. Am i right to say so?

Will a 18-250 len good for vacation/travel photo taking?

Hi, as an ex user of 18-250, I would said that the lens is a so call all rounder good for walkabout. But I sold mine as I need to fund for other lens and I gotten a 55-200mm.

I'm looking to get a33/a55 soon!
