Oh another thing, so what should be the approatiate outfit and background for those you mentioned for the point on No.1 and No.2? We would love to rectify for future shoots. Thanks.

2) While the pink flowers and Oriental environment in the background was very appropriate, the Japanese sailor uniform is mismatched with the white shoes.

Jemapela said:Hi all,
The pretty models aside, I saw some beautiful images captured in scenes outside Singapore. Away from our tiny Singapore home, it's surely a refreshing change to the many portraits previously featured here on ClubSnap.
Even the models' clothes were fairly untypical. There was a cow boy outfit and a Japanese high school sailor uniform. It's a nice creative change.
While I'm sure that the photographers are well skilled to produce these technically excellent images, the image styling seems somewhat off.
1) While the leather hat and denim shorts were appropriate, the cow boy outfit appears weird with the black high-heeled boots and black leather jacket. Set against bamboo and Chinese characters on a tomb-looking stone makes it even more out of place.
2) While the pink flowers and Oriental environment in the background was very appropriate, the Japanese sailor uniform is mismatched with the white shoes.
While the ideas were basically there, more attention should be given to image styling or art direction.
I'm not here to bust your morale... just voicing some observations.

Well the Japanese sailor uniform is mismatched, the reason is the model who wearing this outfit had some problem with the visa, she can't join us, so this girl is taking over her last min.
Actually the most important for this trip is to enjoy the shoot, I just want to give everybody something difference. I am not a stylist, and I am not anybody, I am just a "Ah soh" to gether all the hobby shooter to go for a "mum mum " and photo shoot.
This is a trip to enjoy and relax, if we are so particular on everything, that you will not happy with this, not happy with that, end up you are not enjoy the trip, and this is what we don't want.
Anyway thank you for your opinion, maybe my next trip you can give a helping hand!
Jemapela said:Hi Pro Image,
I don't think I'm qualified to be a stylist but I wouldn't mind contributing ideas if I could.
In the absence of a stylist or art-director, photographers should be able to do a little styling or directing themselves. If not, photographers may shoot images that look weird (to say the least).
One of the best ways to improve styling and directing abilities is to do some studying and researching, especially before a shoot. Study the images in contemporary magazines, fashion catalogues, apparel advertisements, etc. Some even study/research culture and trends if they are going to shoot images which originated from overseas.
Suggested improvements:
1A) Use cowboy boots to add strength to the cowboy/cowgirl look. (Search the Internet for "cowboy boots" to see how they look like.)
1B) Replace the black leather jacket with something more cowboyish. (Search the web for "cowboy" or "cowgirl" images -- there should be many done in the US, perhaps by FHM US.)
1C) Shoot in a more open (perhaps bushy/sandy/natural) environment. (There should be more open spaces outside of Singapore since the shoot was in Malaysia.) Harsh lighting? So be it! Cowboys and cowgirls are outdoor people, scorched by the sun, not delicate fragile subjects that need to be lit 24/7 by unrealistic flat even lighting.
2A) Use black leather shoes. These could come with laces or a single strap over the foot. (Similarly, search the Internet to find images on Japanese school girl images. Japanese anime and school girl uniforms have a significant following in Singapore but surprisingly the shoes used in the shoot lack the accuracy.)
2B) Use baggy elephant socks. (The trend with such baggy socks has died down long ago, according to a Japanese friend of mine. However, through research, many images of Japanese school girls are still pictured with the baggy socks. Using such socks can be a matter of personal preference.)
I understand that cowboy/cowgirl clothes may be difficult to find in Singapore but not impossible. If impossible, buy online. I'm sure the Japanese sailor uniform was bought online from overseas. If the organiser/stylist could pay so much $$$ for a sailor uniform (I know because I have 1), I'm sure he/she could pay for the cowboy boots.
If the styling is incomplete or inaccurate, then either abort the idea or shoot objectively (to exclude the legs so that the boots/shoes don't appear in the image.)

Pro Image said:We love to have the models in the right outfit and right enviroment but not all the time we can do that. Sometimes changing the ideas is new and fresh to our eyes. As for the Cowboy Gal does not mean she needs to be in the farm with meadows and cows all the time. For Sailormoon Gal, well the long socks thingy kinda of passe already. So if we do not try something new, the trend will still remain the same all the time. So we are the trend setters.......haha.
