So why Sony?

I won't upgrade to sony though Sony has taken over KM's business. Simple Reason is I think they have not done enough justice to KM's line of design maybe except the CZ lenses and Sony rebranded lenses. As for Sony DSLR bodies, I dont wish to comment more. Though Sony has improved alot over times, maybe in future I would consider getting Sony DSLR. For now, only KM. Not sony for me now. :)

I love Sony because:
- I like Konica Minolta during the film days
- Go with mainstream will make me can't breath well because of the pollution :p
- I owned other Sony's products and satisfied with the superb quality Sony offers
- Their outstanding SSC, just collected my out of warranty SR7E handycam from inspection & servicing and to my surprises they waived the fees for me. Kudos to SSC!
- Sony got friendly forum and I feel home there
- I like α, it's the first letter in Greek and the brightest star in constellation
- Last but not least, C + N = S, S has the power of C & S, go and figure out:)
- Any more to add?

Cheers,
Vibranze

why? because i started off with minolta and am lazy to sell my lenses to get new system

And oh, btw, last time when the Minolta Service Centre was at Funan, I always like to go there to beo the chio counter-girl. When I went to Nikon or Canon svc centre, it was a different story.

now sony servicing centre @ wisma also got ;p

Yes, everyone has their own reasons and rights to choose the brand and model they want to and I have no issues with discussing "real" photography topic with my friends and colleagues even they are using other systems.

Real hobbist or pros never speaks about the limitations of a system or lenses/cameras, they only talk about how to compose and make the best shots out of a opportunity.

What makes me ticked off is those who give blanket comments like "Canon is the only brand for DSLR", which immediately shows me how ignorant or naive is the person who gave such comments and I do pity those students who attend the lessons by such lecturers.

In olden times, people always say:
1) Buy car buy Toyota
2) Buy fridge buy Mitsubishi/Toshiba
3) Buy TV buy Toshiba
4) Buy washing machine get National
5) Buy aircon get National
6) Buy camera get Canon/Nikon as they provide the best quality and can last very long...

However, I do not think these are real valid anymore, given the cutting cost measures and shifting the production to other countries by these companies....

Suddenly tomorrow there's a huge crowd at SSC......... LOL

out of point leh, thread title is "So why Sony?"

Even outsiders, people who do not own a DSLR know better than to buy a Sony DSLR - trust me, even my school lecturers tells me its not worth to buy a Sony. Friends telling me that Sony cannot compare to Canon/Nikon and that its amateur.

Most of these lecturers shoot Nikon. So I ask them how they like shooting with their Sony sensors. That kinda shuts them up.

I have a Canon photocopier and Stereo speakers.

I think he photocopier is better than the camera. ;)

wait, Canon speakers?!?
never knew Canon produced speakers

There's some bashing on the net about Sony's SSS system, about how it might get outdated if there are future updates while for C and N users can stay updated even though they're using a very old system. =/

thats bashing Olympus and Pentax systems too
They also having Body IS.
:)

Like one of the earlier contributors, I had been so used to Sony; I had a Vaio, mobilephone x 2, etc. Alos, being used to the Sony user interface made me consider Sony Alpha as my first option when venturing into DSLR. Having said that, I did have some regrets after getting the A200. I realised that Sony lens are costly (for me lah); probably costlier than the C and N. Though, I have no knowlege of the difference in quality.

So, when one of my friends was also considering getting a DSLR, I had (wrongly) advised him against getting a Sony. He eventually bought a D60. DISASTER! I think I misled him! One day, when we were both shooting at a friend's gathering, we tried one another's cammies; then I realised that the D60 had to fire at a higher ISO (therefore grainier) than my A200. The result was obvious; the A200 triumphed. Ultimately, I was pleased that I am like.no.other, but I am sorry that I misled someone else towards N.

Hi, sorry to be here late. Lately, I just try the DK tactics and it work very well with my A700 & A900, Never imagines the noise was such low visibility even at 3200 ISO. The main is the Carl Zeiss lens and G lens as well. Never regret for buying Sony.:bsmilie:

HI Kingfishers,

Sorry to ask what is DK Tactics? would it solve the high ISO problem? or does it mena that CZ or G lens would solve the High ISO >800 problem?
