the firing spot is shown on my pic, seen from Shears Bridge. Pic uncropped taken with a 17mm lens on 1.6 mulitplier DSLR(anything more than 20mm wont be ideal).

I can see all those wide angle lenses being snapped up leow... No more stocks of Nikon/Sigma 12-24, Nikon 17-35, Canon 16-35, 17-40, etc

Can some 'oldbies' give me some advice on what kind of settings is best for fireworks?

Currently using a Canon G5.

Appreture or Shutter Priority?....ISO lowest at 50?...

Use the Manual Mode. Recommended Aperture setting: f8 (smallest aperture). Recommended shutter speed: 2 secs to 8 secs. ISO: 50. Don't forget to bring a good tripod as well. Experiment with these settings and find out which gives best results. There are a total of five (!!!) opportunities to shoot fireworks starting from July 31 till August 15. The three days of SFF, plus NDP Preview and Actual Day.

Yes. Practice the timing such that your shutter opens b4 the "bud" explodes. Watch for the telltale rocket exhaust from the shell going up, den trigger the shutter. Takes timing and a fair bit of luck as well.

Scouted out the Esplanade roof today, and it looks like a good spot. Just wonder if the authorities would object to a horde of photographers with big tripods crowding with the rest of the people on the roof....

With such shutter speed, there will be light trails right. :dunno:

I think that is a good location, definitely not too crowded in terms of people and cars. Just a short walk to the coast line. And each of us can open our big tripods and secure a good position. And bring enough makan and drinks.

Ok for convenience of referral I have posted the direct link to the map which shows the general viewing areas for public, VIP area, funfair, concert and stalls/food areas etc.

The fireworks firing area is at the round patch of land jutting out into Marina Bay just next to Benjamin Sheares Bridge, as can be seen on the map.

Yeah, mistake, mistake. Based on Garion's map, that is the launching spot. So, I suppose we need to find a better place, that is somewhat away from the crowds, where you risk someone kick your tripod legs! maybe, need to go there early and "chope" a good spot.

I am thinking of bringing some tape, cheap type to tape my tripod to the parapet, using 2 legs only. Very sturdy and no one would kick my tripod! Did that quite a number of years ago, with my 15 year old camera.
