think have to reach the 6 hotspots before around 4pm, then will be able to secure a good position. else, can forget about it. :(

I think a convenient area would be at the Esplanade and the ex-merlion park. But I'm not too sure if they are situated too close to the fireworks for us to take pictures. We may need to secure a good distance in order not to have the fireworks displays blowing up so big; pleasing for the naked eyes but not for the viewfinder. Can anyone confirm on a good spot for photographers?

hohoho... long time no see you!!!!! ai ya... i am using c5050z, narrowest aperture f8.0, in order to prevent overexpose i cannot have too slow a shutter speed, which will lead to very short trails... any advise? (or should i start a new thread ;p)

good spot will depend on the photographer himself i think. do you just want to take shots of the fireworks, or with seaview and trails, where not so crowded and yet can take decent shots...

Well, there are many potential good spots but must go and recce lar. On the actual day dunno which parts will be cordoned off for VIP's, probably Fullerton/Merlion Park area?
Esplanade bridge will be pretty crowded I guess. Benjamin Sheares Bridge? Might be too close to the fireworks being fired.

Actually best if can book a room at one of the hotels ard the area (provided they're not fully booked on the dates yet...). Maybe u guys can share and book one or two rooms (hehe just a suggestion). Offers the best view sumemore. Swisshotel Stamford anyone?

er.. does anyone know "exactly" where the fireworks will be FIRED from? ;p

1) dkw (8th-prob, 15th)
2) Panda (1st, 8th, 15th)
3) Luval (1st and prob 8th)
4) Khoo (1st Aug.)
5) bigfatfish ( 1,8,15)

8) beivied, all three days (hopefully)
9)Polo_pro(8th Aug)

"secure a good distance" means might have some heads and bodies obstructing the view if you are going to include some buildings or singapore river inside the picture :)

MIA!! :(
have full manual mode right?
last year i were shooting slides on 35mm SLR, using ISO100, F16, shutter between 2s to 6s, exposure and trails was ok and acceptable. So if can use ISO100, F8, shutter not beyond 3-4s, might still be ok. And I think some guys used F8 too, but I personally prefer F16 as the trails will then be finer and thinner :)

:D
if anyone still can't get it after viewing the map, it's the area underneath the bengamin sheares bridge-ECP ( to the left side if you are standing on sheares bridge shooting the skyline or night scenery of CBD).
So I believe the best place to view the fireworks is on the bridge itself, will appear big big :) But not the best place if you are shooting and intend to include some buildings, water etc in the picture, and get ready a wide angle lens at least 24mm, else some fireworks will be out of the frame even if you include only the fireworks itself.

hi all... me going on all 3 weekends.... anyway.... any of u guys bought the festival t shirt??? so tt we could shoot the concerts they have after the fireworks.....

I think that is a good location, definitely not too crowded in terms of people and cars. Just a short walk to the coast line. And each of us can open our big tripods and secure a good position. And bring enough makan and drinks.

Who like to join me on 1st Aug.

May I know what is the timing like?

think this will be a crowded festival!
i'll be going too but still not sure where to park tripod.

went for a fast recce around esplanade, merlion and clifford pier. :sweatsm:
think i'll rule out esplanade and merlion to avoid headshots and straining neck.
besides there will be lotsa viewers around those areas. tripod get kicked, or u get elbowed around. :bsmilie: but i may be wrong.

clifford pier, slightly better. no fanciful structures to include except for the jetty. but 1 or 2 ktv boats may be around... :( *crosses fingers*

other sides? not so sure yet. any scouts?

s'poreans have the habit of 'chop' tables with tissues. it'll be interesting if we see tripods or something with no one around at about 2pm! :bsmilie:
good luck! ;)

yup, u are right man, went recce there this morning, this are my findings:
1) esplanade - will be very flooded with ppl, mainly couples, family
2) shears bridge - NO NO as you will be very close to the firing site, also smoke will also cause distraction
3) esplanade bridge - Good location
4) Merlion - VIP area, might be cordoned off
5) Clifford Pier - Good location, if view is not obstructed by boats. there is a custom checkpoint at this pier. was inform by the police that taking photos is prohibited at this area (maybe near the check pt). told him that there will be firework in coming weeks, and will it be ok during that time, he said should be OK. so guys, no warranty that they will allow.

Bro, u going? ;)

Possibly going on all three dates, have yet to cfm. Maybe going with my own friends, so if i see a huge crowd of tripods and cams, must be u guys. :D

the firing spot is shown on my pic, seen from Shears Bridge. Pic uncropped taken with a 17mm lens on 1.6 mulitplier DSLR(anything more than 20mm wont be ideal). As mentioned, it's pretty near the action and limits the composition ;p. my coming target area is the Esplanade roof...who wants join me for a recce ? :D
