Sigma announces 35mm f/1.4 DG, 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC OS, 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS lenses

The Sigma won't be able to beat the Canon in terms of AF speed and noise.

Have you tried the new Sigma lens? Because I don't think that is a fair statement to make if you haven't tested the Sigma.

Even if it is slower, I won't think it would be significantly slower.

Besides, Sigma has beaten Canon at least once, when it comes to the AF speed - The Sigma AF 85mm f/1.4

So not true... Sigma HSM primes is very fast focusing and very silent. And faster focusing than many Canon lenses.

BTW....

This lens kicks butt, takes names, and basically posterizes the manufacturers who make the cameras this lens will fit on.

LensRentals.com - Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Arrives. Announces New World Order.

"Autofocus speed was reasonably quick, about on a par with the Canon 35mm."

Doesn't sound bad but not exiting either.

I heard that about other freshly released Sigma and Tamron lenses as well in the past but once the dust settled they didn't look that good anymore. Let's wait for more user reviews from different camera bodies and a few proper reviews.

well.. the sigma 85 focuses faster than the Canon 85L... That is for sure.

And I showed you the link, is not for AF speed. The Sigma so far performs better than the Canon and Nikon 35/1.4 from initial tests.

Yeah, but you only talked about the AF speed and noise in the post where the had that link.

I note that you concede that the Sigma 85mm focuses faster than the Canon 85mm f/1.2L?

I never even mentioned those lenses. Anyway, Sigma doesn't even have a 85mm 1.2 lens.

I know you didn't. But I just think you aren't given Sigma a fair chance.

You mentioned that the Sigma will never run close to the Canon on a number of attributes. This statement may be logically understood by many that Sigma lenses have always been inferior to, and will continue to be inferior to Canon lenses.

What I think Daredevil and myself is saying, let's give this new guy a chance, or at least a personal review, because condemning it as inferior to the Canon. The latest Sigma lenses have come close or even beaten Canon lenses on several key attributes, of which the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 is a significant victory over the Canon.

Canon mount 35mm snap out within few days after released in one of the reputable shop in sls. Nikon mount Will be in shop around Friday, price around 1.1k. Do reserve if you do not want to wait till all stocks gone again.

I get your point but I don't think it's fair to base the expectation on a single lens and to compare it with a lens that's 1/2 stop faster. ;-)

Actually, no point arguing. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. For some of us owners of the Sigma 85 and 50, just enjoy the lenses and cost savings. I am really tempted to give the 35 a go, but then again, i have too many lenses...

personally i own most of the canon primes, but the sigmalux 50s and 85s are far superior optically than their original counterparts in my opinion, similarly when compared to my previous nikkors.
sold my 50 and 85 for the siggies, never regretted it and im very happy with their performance, better yet with the price!

when i 1st heard the siggy 35 was going to be released, i was hoping it to be in the 1.3k range but damn the price is a steal!
already sold my c 35 sometime back and ordered the siggy - hopefully it'll be in my hands by thursday.
knowing the sigma trend, this is a lens thats definitely not going to dissapoint me!

my trust in the new sigma lines are very high now, though i dont think they or any other manufacturers can make a replacement for my 200 f2 just yet at the moment :)

Agreed! I was initially looking to forgo to 35mm perspective (I didn't think the Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.4G was worth it), but the Sigma looks like a possible winner here!

I must say that I haven't been disappointed with Sigma thus far. My first Sigma lens was the 10-20mm f/4-f/5.6, and it performed very well. It certainly helped that I got it 2nd hand at a steal!

I think Sigma got a couple of winners in their hands, and with proper quality control and adequate after-sales support, they have every chance to succeed. Their recent primes are quite excellent!

Well, my 2c: Sigma definitely has some winners in their portfolio, at least based on combination of IQ, features and price.

85mm, 50mm, and even the 30mm - provided you get a good copy.

The only thing is that sometimes the QC sucks, and as a result, you have big quality gap/deviation in the market between each copy of a same lens model.

I agree. Sigma definitely have some winners in their lens line-up. Personally used the 30mm, 50mm and 70-200mm OS before and I felt that they are very good. Especially the 50mm. Some of my friends are raving about the 85mm as well.

This s35 is sharp lens but bokeh seems not as good as Canon 35 1.4 lens

Oh well.
But does anyone have any faint idea when Nikon mount will be out?

Let the skeptics continue to spend more by following their "idol" company's lens and to search high and low for the focusing issues.

I'm gonna get this for sure. My confidence in Sigma primes is very very high after using 30mm and 50mm.

I am still abit shell shocked about the price, in a good way :)
