Just out of curiosity, can't you do the calibration yourself using AF microadjustment on the newer bodies?

hi all. quick inquiry.

from all the threads, i gathered that the calibration cost is 150 bucks.. yea?... but if mine is a HK set with international warranty, has shop stamp and original receipt... will that give me free calibration? or i have to pay for it?

i did a test to see whether there is any calibration error by using a ruler (simple method).. but it seems accurate and focusing at the right spot.. but, in terms of sharpness, it is sharper when i use manual focus (with the help of live view mode) than autofocus mode. so, does it mean that i have front/back focusing problem?.. or its just sigma?? or is it the camera body's AF tracking limitations? im using canon 60D, btw.

thanks for the help (in advance), guys!

In case you haven't found the answer yet: your set is considered a grey set (as not bought locally) and will have to pay for calibration.

Hmmm... I'm wondering about this reply. If I understand it correctly, Hazmism's lens should be covered cos it comes with international warranty and he bought it in HK, the shop in HK stamped the international warranty card and he has the receipt from the shop in HK. I'm assuming of course, that the lens was "local" (to HK) and not imported from elsewhere.

Yes it should be covered. But sigma Singapore will contact sigma hk to confirm before performing any work. So be prepared to wait a few days longer than it will normally take.

guys do you use ext. flash for sigma 30mm indoors?

Yes, I do. It really depends on the lighting condition, sometimes I use flash to add catchlights (to the eyes).

Hi Anyone going HK hope to Tompang....

Hi Guys,

Very new to this thread, am posting this question cause I see Sigma has recently made changes to prices such as the calibration price, was wondering if other policies may have been changed as well.

Besides the $150 calibration fee which I will have to pay if I were to buy my lens from Hong Kong, what other things does Sigma Singapore NOT cover for international sets?

Also has anyone bought theirs from Hong Kong recently? What's the price there like?

Thanks!

Andrew

Hey guys, I picked up a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 second hand off a guy from a local photography forum. Everything looked good until I shot a focus test chart when I noticed that the column on the right was noticeably sharper / more in focus than the column on the left.

Centre AF point was used, focused on the black bar as usual. This was at f/1.6.

Any cause for concern?

No cause for concern. This is result of parallax error.

It does appear in typical everyday shooting conditions though. If my camera wasn't perpendicular to the bar, wouldn't there be a "band" of in-focus / sharp areas, instead of what seems to be a fairly isolated patch on the right?

Maybe you want to bring the lens down to sigma service center? It might be an out of alignment element if it is as serious as you say it is.

Yep, I'll be heading down sometime next week. Will keep this thread updated for future reference.

You need to call to book appointment. No walk in service.

I'm getting quite bad service from the sigma distributor here. they cant calibrate my lens and have resorted to importing a whole new set of lens elements to replace as they don't do 1 to 1 exchange either.

maybe i'm just super unlucky with a damn lousy copy of the lens?

my copy looks ok?

Hard to tell. Go out and shoot and post more pics. You'll see if it back/front focus. Mine looks good in testing at the shop but in different situations the problem occurs. After a visit to sigma (for calibration), it is spot on!

Its been awhile since my last post from this baby.
Using Nikon D300s.
Straight from camera. No editing. Just screen size.
Hope you guys like it ...

How is this lens compared to the nikon 35mm 1.8?

Is this lens compatible with D7000?
