Sigma 150-500mm in action

Heavy, and a bit ungainly. Otherwise, very good! the 50-500mm may be heavier but easier to handle though.

thanks for your reply...me patiently waiting for Dec :D

Hi

I'm planning to buy this lens later this year. As it will be my most expensive lens, I would like to know from the owners of this BIGMOS, are there any BIG negative points that I ought to know before i splurge on it.

And I read that to get sharp shots from this lens, its better not to half press the shutter before fully depressing it. Just fully press down at 1 go, is that correct?

Thanks!

I recently sent to Sigma for servicing as my copy is in their defect list,

This is not a fast lens, the widest aperture at 500mm is f6.3, if u r thinking of freezing motion of wildlife at that range, make sure u can get good speed and reasonable stable platform in the environment u r shooting, i always take along a midrange 200mm/f2.8 lens as backup.

From images at 100% crop, I find that best IQ on the long side is at 400mm/f8, acceptable at 500mm/f8, too soft at 500mm/f6.3.

These are not really negative points to me, just limitations/challenges that need work around solutions to get good IQ. Only negative point may be the weight and additional investment needed in a huge 86mm filter, but then which supertele is small, light and handy? :)

Just a quick qn, wanna get this lens but how heavy is it? Is it too heavy to walk around for a full day while slinged?

ya, from what i checked, this is a value for money lens.

It's a zoom, so the flexibility is there.

I've thought of getting a 300mm f4 lens + 1.4 TC, stretching the Fl to 420mm, still 80mm short of the 150-500mm.

If get the 400 f5.6L prime lens, then i have to buy a Canon body (both used), i don't mind, except that the combined costs are quite a few hundreds more than the 150-500mm.

So, it seems to me that the Sigma is really a good buy.

Just wondering, what's the smallest dry cabi to keep this lens in?

For me, as I prefer to store my lens horizontally, I need an 80L cabinet. I am using Digi-cabi AD-080_

I m using akarui e40d which is 38 litres, deep enough to place the lens horizontally at the bottom with front pointing inside.

Really! Ok, mine is 50 litres, so shd be ok...waiting for my lens impatiently ;p

How fast is the AF? Does the OS handle well at the longer ends? thanks!!

Hmm, seems like a mixed response but more people are satisfied with this lens compared to those who are not. Alright, i shall save up for this lens!!

Anyone use a 1.4 teleconverter with this lens before?

How's the IQ?

Hi, guy can anyone share infor of what is the current price of Sigma 50-500mm and Sigma 150-500mm lens in local detail shop advise is apprecited.

I am looking for this lens too. My known price from AP(SLS) is 1.4+k for 150-500mm and 2.2k for 50-500mm. There are shops in SLS that offer as low as 1.8k for 50-500mm(OS) but I dare not trust those sleazy shops.

Can user of Sigam 150-500mm give advise that rather of taking photo of wildlife, sports and bird it is good on human portraits I had search the net and found no answer thank.

I used with 2x teleconverter, 1600mm on crop body ... sweet :)

No problem at all, even at night, used it to capture amazing shots of the moon.
