Sigma 150-500mm in action

Quite keen on this lens, but wondering if there are any differences between this lens and Sigma 135-400mm? I am more into sports photography, and might need the range to bridge the distance. Any recommendations?

Well the Sigma 135-400mm doesn't have optical stabilization at least, compared to the 120-400mm.

You can check with TK Foto for the local price. For sports, you probably need a monopod as holding and tracking a moving objects for too long can be very tiring for your hands due to the weight of this len. cheers!

wonder how this lens will handle with a d40. Or should i get a better body first? Looking for more range as i mainly take birds, animals and airshows.

Hi, I tried the len on my older D80, and it's works perfectly too. Cheers!

How is the focusing speed? Is it faster than nikkor 80 - 400 vr?

Is sharpness ok at 500mm f6.3?

I do not have a 80-400mm VR to compare, but as for sharpness.. below is an untouched photo at 500mm, ISO200, 1/800s, f6.3. Is this sharp enough for you? :-)

Wonder if anyone tried to mount a teleconvertor to the len(nikon mount). I tried a 2x kenko convertor and my fully charged batt became flat. . Also the lens will atempt to focus but the focusing is rather noisy and it also failed to focus on the object.

Once I removed the convertor, the batt became full again and the lens is able to focus normally and quietly...

Hence want to check with fellow owners if it is normal.

tc's only work in MF not AF. Make sure your lens is set to MF along with the camera before you put it on your camera or you could damage the lens from what Nikon says. I've used the 1.4x tc in this manner without any problems.

Got it tks...

Hi, can you share your results using TC2x on max 500mm? Does the picture remains sharp? Thanks.

dang..it is soft to me. I chcked the given flickr site of the elephants too , it looked sharp at the original pic, but once the 100percent is shown, it looks too soft for me. Guess i willhave to try out myself and get myself a sharp copy...

By the way, this shot was taken handheld in an open field. Couldn't control my breathing well because I was panting after chasing this bird around. Wish I have my tripod with me. :)

hmmm i know this lens can be handheld, but the quality should be better at least ?

I guess you must find a sharp copy. I hope all are not this soft.
