Sigma 150-500mm in action

check out the moonshot above. that picture was added with a 2xTC.

Wow You add 2x TC . so its should be 1000mm focal length ....
What brand do you use ? is AF still working ? tq

Me using Kenko Teleplus 2x Teleconvertor (MC7). On bright day light my AF still works. BUt on a cloudy day.. It will take some time. as it will start hunting. That moon shot is totally Manual Focussing, Optical stability = OFF.

Manual focussing is recommended on this lens but more on still/slower objects.. Its a No No on birdie... YOu will get frustrated..

I had tested on a Teleplus Pro300 but i prefer the MC7 more... Yet to try on the original APO Sigma TC..

-Peace -

Here is another sample taken with 1.4TC

Bro jcho, with 1.4TC, does the AF work? TIA ... :)

With TC, AF does not work. BTW the filter for this lens is expensive. 86mm:sweat:

Thanks Bro. Haha!!! buy what is essential lo ... maybe UV + CPL :)

Don't think you can find CPL filter this size.

Yes you can! Its just not the typical to find them in the shops locally.

Brands like B+W, Tiffen, Hoya do make CPL filters in such size, in fact, they have filters that go all the way to 127mm! But these are special sizes that are not commonly used, and you'll have to ask the shops to order for you. And they are Expensive!

YOWZ! That's one to think about when getting this lens. BTW, seems like getting it from US is a better option cos of exchange rates based on B&H pricing. Savings of a few $$ ya. :)

So, anyone did any comparison between this Sigma and Tamron SP AF200-500mm F/5-6.3 Di LD (IF)? :)

Saba,
another CS bro has posted some photos of his tam 200-500, very very sharp, he took it from his house near sim lim, jln besar area i think, and from 100% crop, can see people in the spore flyer! i'm sure sigma will be too soft to even focus properly. only thing is the tamron no VC/OS.... but definitely sharper. imo

That was the Tokina 100-300. You can find the picture here, and I'm not sure why you have a seemingly unfounded bias against Sigma.

Do a search on users like strobby, newguy69 and me (reno) in the world of nature section for the photos taken by the tamron 200-500. Hope this helps. :)

Hi guys,
I will intend to get 500mm lens too for birding. How about 50-500mm sigma without OS , its zoom range is attractive. Need some advice from u guys. I currently using tamron 70-300 and not satisify of IMQ and night shot are ghosting. :(

Hi, just sharing my personal experiences from using this len for the last couple of months. If wildlife and birdie in their natural environment are your primary focus in a shooting/field trip, chances of you using the 50-150mm are rather rare as you will find yourself shooting more at the 400-500mm ranges. But if you are shooting animals in the zoo, or birds in captivity in the bird park, then 50mm range can be useful as not practical to shoot a big elephant and a nearby parrot with min 150mm range. Thus it really depend on your primary needs for this len. For myself, I normally carry an additional 18-200mm len to take care of the shorter needs. Cheers! ;)

This is one of the most impressive threads. Image quality is stellar. Where did you guys "ambush" these birds for shooting? I want to try shooting birds with my Nikkor 55-200mm VR lens before commiting to this lens. Catch the bird before you buy the lens.
