Thanks for sharing the final results.
Btw, i am curious, very curious in fact. Is it not possible to shoot it under the sun direct? Since the tank's spray finish is already in matt, there wont be much reflection. Plus the fact that you can DI any unwanted surface away...
Sorry for the question. Appreciate if you can enlighten us... thanks...![]()
not true blue strobist. shot at home with a jinbei 600w strobe.

Hmm.. That meaning all Car Shoot in the future should be done outdoors???:bsmilie: No pun intended dude....
What we need is absolute control as in where I want the lights, and not what the sun gives...When you shoot with the sun out in the open, then you surely can't control any lights, other than what the sun can provide as a generic source of light, that being the case, we may have to put up a 12ftX12ft with high rollers, which is even more work for us if we need to cover a few angles.... So we bring our "sun" in... Next, The sun rises from the east, tops in the afternoon, sets in the west, we would be able to control the schedule for our shoot better, with a more accurate timing for our clients as to when we can complete the project. Of course, one of the most important factor, we can't let the e bad weather(rain) change our schedule, there's no coming back to shoot it again... Imagine, planning, staff from all over is used up to do this shoot...
Hi PointBlankshots,
Thanks for sharing. Yes, i understand your points. But car shoots are done indoor because they are highly reflective.
The Leopard tank is matt green. When i see our tanks in the open, they are not even catching a single reflection (see below XXVIII picture from National Day). I was thinking just shoot the tank in all angles in the open and adjusting the files in post process.
I apologise if i had sounded rude. I dont mean to. I am just trying to learn and understand...

Hey dude, don't worry about it.. it's not the reflection.. In fact, tank being matt takes away a lot of pain while shooting it.... I've done car shoots in my younger years, but it's not my speciality now.... Neither am I shooting tanks, but I guess I'm not that bad after all...:bsmilie:
Being in control also means that I can get how the light graduated to grey, or solely wanting to light a panel, or wanting to darken the ugly insides of the wheelbase, highlighting the long gun.... etc etc etc... Realized the image you attached... the tank is kinda flat in lighting you think.... If I go out it the sun, it would be a disaster man....

headshotzx, bg is black i take it? could u share with me the room conditions too thanks:thumbsup:
Not exactly black, and not exactly a room. We were on the stage in my JC's cultural center / audi, and it was shot against a blue curtain, but since my lights were far away from the bg, it turned black. So other than the subject, there's no light anywhere else appearing in my frame. Lighting was dim, just enough for AF.
Nice shooting and lovely light Zexun!
I really like the mood conjured by the lighting. Could have used a little more coaxing of expression for the 2 subjects behind, but pretty good given that they're normal folks like you and me.
